Re: The Will of the People

Some of the latest posts on here seem to be straying away from the point. Kilkis has reminded us all, ad nauseam (well, not quite literally, Warwick) of the situations where the UK is able to exercise its opt-out options and other instances where we have been able to either veto proposals or legally...

Re: The Will of the People

As far as I can see the two camps (Remain and Leave) are firmly entrenched. Those who want to remain, are adamant that we will all be worse off if we leave. Predictions of whether this will be short-term or long-term vary. Past history suggests it will be the latter, although nothing is certain. The...

Re: The Will of the People

Scooby: I think the simple answer to your question about Remain not picking up on Boris and the bus was simply that Remain thought they would win and Leave thought they would lose! So we went from 'No-one will believe that waffle' to 'OMG they did!'. The sad failure, although predictable in so many ...

Re: The Will of the People

Those points were relentlessly pushed on social media scooby, and given as reasons for voting leave. Even after they have been proved to be untrue they still get posted and used as fear tactics by the hard right ...., Which goes to support my proposition that if you are told a lie often enough and ...

Re: Health Insurance/IKA

This is a major issue, particularly as health premiums significantly outstrip annual inflation. I hope this is helpful to anyone else in the same situation. Best wishes, James Unless there is a safety net which will apply to UK expat pensioners, this is the thing that will send many back to the UK ...

Re: The Will of the People

Reciprocal arrangements for healthcare are in both countries interest and I would be absolutely amazed if there were no agreements, of course it is natural for people to worry I get that, but to what extent? There is more chance of me winning the lottery than it not happening and I don’t even buy a...

Re: The Will of the People

Do people really, I mean really think that they would be left high and dry with healthcare? Really? I mean, as one or two say it’s “possible “ it “could “ happen. But looking at it logically it won’t. Enjoy what you have and make the most of it. I think you may have misunderstood Scooby. All it wou...

Re: The Will of the People

Scooby: You say: 'I am quite relaxed about which way Brexit will go, whether we leave or are forced to stay.@ Expect an steady flow of friends begging a room then, when after BREXIT the NHS decides not to refund Greece for UK expat pensioner healthcare and a number feel they have to return to the UK...

Not heard a squeak about renewing contract - but forewarned is forearmed as they say. Thanks. Bob.

Re: Transferring funds, and pink slips

I used to give my accountant a summary of incoming funds but eventually that was not required. Point taken about collecting Pink slips, but if needed I guess I can get the bank to supply the details. Bob.

Re: Transferring funds, and pink slips

We use Currency Fair who as Philipos says only charge €3 whatever the amount. Our Alpha Bank takes the same for importing the money and that's it. We are not tax resident here, and it is some years since our accountant asked anything about how much, or when we transferred from the UK. Don't have to ...

Re: Car Hire Insurance

Just a note that iCarhireinsurance are no longer covering Greek residents - just discovered when I went to renew my policy. Have taken out a policy with http://www.worldwideinsure.com - costs are comparable with iCarhireinsurance. Thanks, fellow singer! Car Hire excess covers up to 84 years of age ...

Re: Car Hire Insurance

Yes, they confirmed that existing policies are still valid - I'd asked because my husband has one. Having had a bit of a moan, the agent I spoke to confirmed that it was not only Greece which was now excluded - she mentioned Portugal as another. I wouldn't be surprised if exclusions were aimed main...
