Re: Driving

The main thing, Bob, is that signposts trump any general rules wherever you are driving in the world. In the three cases you mention I think it is signposted who has to stop/give way. Warwick Yes, that's true Warwick. There are still some local drivers who can't see the signs though!! Bob. :D

Re: Driving

It is still somewhat confusing here in the Chania district when it comes to roundabouts. We still have the 'old' system running outside of the law courts, where if you are already on the roundabout, you MUST stop and give way to traffic joining it from the right. The other two roundabouts in the are...

Re: Latest EHIC & Reciprocal Healthcare

At last week's PMQ's, the final question was put to the PM by Sir Roger Gale, MP. His question revolved around the issue of looking after UK expats living in the EU, whom he suggested were being ignored in most discussions. The PM just repeated his mantra that the welfare of UK citizens in the EU an...

Re: Latest EHIC & Reciprocal Healthcare

Just to make it clear, the article talks about UK expats living in the EU being able to return to the Uk and not have to fulfil the 'settled status' or whatever rules before they can get NHS treatment. There is still nothing about whether the UK will fund UK expats' healthcare costs in EU countries ...

Re: I smelled a rat, and I found a rat

Whichever way one looks at it, BREXIT has fundamentally changed the way people think and vote in the UK. It is blindingly obvious that terms such as Labour, Conservative, Lib Dem etc are out-dated. By and large, one is either a Brexiteer or a remainer, with a small group of 'Corbynites' and 'Johnson...

Re: UK Food in Supermarkets

There are one or two 'English' shops around the Chania area at least and quite a number of small businesses in areas with a large number of expats live also sell a variety of 'English' foods. Good hunting! Bob

Re: Absolutely no reason!

Jealousy, xenophobia, decades of being ignored, disastrous policies by central government to hamstring local government .........how much more do you want? As you say, it's so obvious to all but the extremists on both sides and the devious and malicious interference from some on the sidelines (e.g. ...

Mrs May Legacy

I don't really think this is a BREXIT issue, but over the last 3 years I think a new 'term' has entered our vocabulary, which has undoubtedly come from our previous PM. Like using the word 'SO' as the first vocal utterance of someone responding to a question; a fairly recent phenomenon. Mrs May left...

Re: Latest EHIC & Reciprocal Healthcare

Imagine my surprise today to receive, unannounced, a copy of the S1 form I completed and returned in June 2004. It came in the post from NHS Business Services Authority . Anyone wishing to make enquiries about S1 copies should write to: nhsbsa.ohsregistrationsws@nhs.net. or by post to Overseas Healt...

Re: Greek Driving Licence

...We're both 68 and our recently acquired Greek licences expire on the eve of our 70th birthdays, in late 2020. There's probably a system in there somewhere ;) Very odd. The requirement to renew a Greek licence starts at 65 and is then needed every 3 years. This implies a renewal at 68 and then 71...

Re: Latest EHIC & Reciprocal Healthcare

Thanks Jeff. Most interesting. Looking at the text, one portion stands out as a possible problem: " Paradoxically, even though we have health care, you will still need evidence of a state or private insurance fund to get a residence permit. But you can always take a basic one out for 12 months ...
