Re: Currency Index

................... and just to add to what Warwick says, the €3 fee by Currency Fair appears to be irrespective of the amount being converted and transferred. Bob.

Re: Predictions for 2019 include a Hard Brexit

What about McDonalds? Will they still have branches in every town in the UK? Well that's OK then. No-one will go hungry! Bob.

Re: bank account after brexit

........ and yet another twist. I recently tried to open a bank account in Switzerland, to the point of preparing to visit a branch there to sign the paperwork. First bank said a minimum deposit of CHF500,000 (yes, half a million). Second bank happy with minimum deposit of CHF 50,000 but carried a C...

Re: bank account after brexit

Similar situation here Kathleen but haven't tried to resurrect the Sterling account we hold with Alpha Bank. But like you we have Euro accounts which are in regular use so hoping for a trouble-free 'wake up' if and when required. Just waiting to see what happens over Brexit before perhaps even closi...

Thanks Voni. Helpful and to a degree comforting. Just have to wait and see now. Bob.

Re: UK PASSPORTS - INTER-SCHENGEN TRAVEL

Arrangements for travel by UK Nationals in the EU is part of the Article 50 negotiations. As the UK is not a Schengen country it is not entitled to participate in proposals to address this issue. Depends on whether you are a person whose cup is half full, or half empty? Bob.

Re: UK PASSPORTS - INTER-SCHENGEN TRAVEL

Thanks Warwick. Yes, the whole point of Schengen is exactly as you state. I just wondered if there is another 'unintended consequence' of Brexit which would lead to the requirement changing for a UK citizen entering an EU country. At the moment it doesn't pose a problem, but if things go off the rai...

UK PASSPORTS - INTER-SCHENGEN TRAVEL

Trying to find an answer to a problem which will affect many of us. We know about the implications for passports/visas etc for Brits travelling from UK to Europe, but what about those of us who have UK passports, and do inter-Schengen travel? For instance, I have UK passport (EU style current;ly). I...

Re: Still in Limbo

...BTW I don't think BREXIT should affect the DTA - that was in place long before the EU existed! But who knows?? DTA's do get revised from time to time, as happened recently with the Cyprus-UK DTA. There is no specific reason why Brexit should cause the Greek-UK DTA to be revised but a no deal Bre...

Re: Still in Limbo

True Maud, that the UK needs to get its act together on healthcare. My greatest fear is that the Government will be persuaded (by 'the will of the people!) that they should stop reimbursing the EU 27 for the healthcare of UK retiree expats living in the EU and keep the small sums paid to boost NHS i...

Re: Still in Limbo

Maud: just a quick note re paying tax in Greece. My biggest problem in that regard is that for 85% of my income I am not allowed by HMG to pay tax on that anywhere other than in the UK; thanks to an elderly Double-Taxation agreement which specifies that Government pensions (i.e.. earned by actually ...

Re: automated car parking system at Chania Airport

I didnt mean the airport terminal, I meant the ticket booth. I had a good deal because I downloaded the app which entitled me to 20% off the normal parking fee if I use the app. I have only used the new system once and I got it wrong because I didnt know about getting the ticket validated before I ...

Re: Still in Limbo

There is absolutely no mileage in fretting about OUR rights here after Brexit. No-one can say anything with any certainty until we know the outcome of the negotiations. Hard Brexit, Soft Brexit - nobody has a clue. What the Greeks do will probably be to fall in line with whatever the EU as a whole d...
