Update: Finally got through to a human being at dvla. They are aware of the new rules but as the system is computerised you can't tax a car that doesn't have a UK mot. The woman I spoke to says she expects the system will be updated one day but not in the foreseeable future! The laws were apparently...

I know the 6 month rule has been in place throughout eu for years but these are apparently new regulations ( updated 01/10/2014 ) which state that you can ONLY register a car in the country in which you are resident. It worked from a PC, no problem, so I've signed and asked all my friends and family to sign if they want to visit us in the winter too - can you hold off printing until Monday, I'm sure there will be more signatures by then
