pictures

PS I'm a bit puzzled about the disappearance of the pictures. They're compressed jpg images which I upload with wordpress. Haven't had any problems like this reported by others but I'll check.

blog

Sorry the scrolling is heavy going. I'm learning... wordpress is great - when you know what to do. Perhaps using the links for categories and the months would help?

Chrissi Island - by luxury motor yacht

We offer a fast taxi service to Chrissi Island most days, leaving Ierapetra old port (by the Venetian fort) at 10.30 and returning at 5pm. Our luxury motor yacht is also available for hire for day trips, charters (Chrissi Island, Koufonisi, or further afield). More information (and pictures of the b...

Chrissi Island, Ierapetra, South East Crete

Hello,
If anyone is interested in Chrissi Island and occasional snippets of behind-the-scenes Greek life in this part of the world, I've been running a summer blog here: http://alikisgreeksalad.wordpress.com/
If anyone needs info on Chrissi Island (or Koufonisi) I can also help.
Best wishes, Alice

Stunning day in Ierapetra/Chrissi Island today. Slightly chilly wind, but beautiful sun and the sea was still 27 degrees.

My Greek boyfriend wears a helmet because he was fined by the police for not doing so a year or two back. A blind eye seems to be turned on passengers riding on back round and about town/village, but if you go out of town or any distance, better to wear helmets.

Thanks for responses. I'm so glad I asked the question! Hanging. Now there's a thing. I used to enjoy buying a well-hung rib of beef from my butcher in Stamford, roast it at high heat for 25 minutes (I like rare beef). Here, I'm not sure. I'm told the beef is hung, but I think its shorter. But then ...

meat - to brown or not to brown?

I'd be interested in views from members about browning meat. My Greek friends and my greek cookery book make no reference to browning meat before yiouvetsi, casseroles/stews and the like (eg goat, chicken rabbit etc). The Anglo-French tradition is different. I recently made a lamb yiouvetsi without ...

hellenic centre london

I've also had a very good experience from the Hellenic centre in London, although they're not cheap. I've had two excellent teachers from there and I still use one of them privately when I'm in London. I've also heard that CityLit do a very good nightclass at a fraction of the cost. I had a bad expe...

greek / cretan wine

Hello Krystyn, I would love to but I think we're a long way from each other. For 5 years I ran a wine company in the UK specialising in French wines and my initial experience of Greek/Cretan wine was not good (I've been here a year). But I've since discovered a few excellent winemakers in Crete and ...

greek lessons

Hi, I haven't found any classes, but I have found a very good teacher in Ierapetra which is 40 minutes from Agios Nikolaos. I go to her for 1 to 1 lessons once a week and have made a lot of progress. She's called Katerina Kondaxaki and her number is 69 44 76 51 82. She speaks near-perfect English an...
