Re: Car hire / driving conditions query, Chania area

Most car hire firms will provide you with a basic map of crete and the one that I use has a street map of Chania. There is an INKA on the main road in Maleme and it has an ATM on the wall outside.

Re: bank account after brexit

We had not used our account for a couple of years so...

Re: DVLA changes affecting car hire

So now the car hire companies employees will have access to the final piece in the jigsaw to complete identity fraud. Name, address, DOB, driving license No, contact No, in some cases credit card details and now your NI number.

Re: Speed Cameras Revisited

When I lived in Germany they used to do this but blank out the passenger. However, it did not work for us military guys as we were driving around in UK tax free cars. The photo's always showed the passenger.

Why should it be any different for somebody relocating to Crete?

Because we are an easy target. Next will be re-introduction of window tax, however, it will not apply to mansions

Is it as bad as it at first sounds. My understanding is that any theft/tax taken from savers will be limited to an upper cap of interest earned by account holders over the last 2 years. Some Cypriot banks have been offering rates to savers as high as 7%. Someone who had 100,000 Euro's in an account ...

That's how I read it Warwick. Thinking about it similar things have happened in the UK but by different means. By the government pumping billions in QE interest rates for savers in the UK have fallen to paltry levels compared to before the banking crisis effectively imposing a back door tax on saver...

Warwick,

I read it that the tax will be capped at interest earned in 2 years. In your example the cap would not apply as tax would be 3,645 Euro's which is below the 4,000 Euro's earned in interest.

Try Imperial Hotel in Maleme. Their clientele is mainly Scandinavian and they employ staff from there and they seem to be very happy working there. They also have a second hotel in Maleme. You can find them via google.
