Charging my Kindle

The only way I can recharge my Kindle is by connecting it to the USB port of my desktop computer and the charging rate is very slow and it stops charging when the computer goes to sleep due to inactivity. (Currently I play a YouTube video when I need to leave the computer) When connected to my lapto...

OTE land line keeps going down

It started just once a week on Thursdays but now it is more frequent. I am not bothered about no phone but it means also no internet.

I stopped going to OTE and gave up on the "help line". It just comes back after 3 or 4 hours.

Any ideas?

Why 3 pounds?

I was watching UK TV and, in the (too frequent) ads breaks, I was asked by 3 charities to donate 3 pounds per month to save children, to save tigers and to save elephants. All very good causes and I don't mind their ads. But why THREE pounds? Any ideas why 3 not 5 or even the 10 I send to one charit...

The Chania car parking reservation system

It used to be shops wanting a space in front of their shop but now its is in residential streets. I refer to the policy of parking a clapped out motor bike in road-side space so that a car cannot park there. I can understand the frustration of a resident returning only to find they have to circulate...

Re: Ground Almonds and Dried Figs

Thanks peebe but I did say that I wanted to find them in supermarkets. I have been a good customer of 1001 but now I need to watch my spending more carefully. Lidl on the Chania side of Mornies no longer has dried figs, I still need the Greek so that I can better search the supermarkets that sell pr...

Re: Surgeon

Michaeli did the operation on my back to repair a squashed disk, He was then at the Chania Hospital. My daughter's friend was a a consultant physician at the hospital and she recommended him. He was brilliant and so too was his reputation. Now he has "gone private" and I consulted him abou...

Ground Almonds and Dried Figs

I have been searching for Ground Almonds and Dried Figs in supermarkets because I don't like the high prices in "Health" food shops. Two things: What is the Greek for these two products? Has anyone seen them in a supermarket in or around Chania? I have a recipes for low carb bread that use...

Re: Life with a pacemaker

Just had my 3-month check. In with surgeon only a few minutes while a very impressive machine did its thing. Result was a booklet of a vast range of measurements of which only one was intelligible to me - current estimate battery life 11.5 years! Was told that it takes 6 months for the bruising to c...

Life with a pacemaker

Does anyone have a pacemaker and can advise me what I can do and what I can't do? The only restrictions I got from the junior doctor at Irakleo hospital was not to use a microwave and not to keep my mobile phone in my shirt pocket. Are there any more restrictions I should know about? Most useful web...

Command-Picture-Hanging strips

Has anyone tried Command-Picture-Hanging strips? How easy are they to remove from the wall to re-position the picture?

Re: Anyone teaching Greek in Platanias/Chania?

1. Unless you are a linguist, it will take longer than a few months in summer to learn Greek 2. There are many online courses, one of which may offer a starter session. Many are brilliant but take some time. Learn the alphabet and letter combinations so you can give a good try to words 3. My observa...

Re: Cicadas-love em or hate em?

To me, they speak of Crete - at times wonderful and at other times frustrating! I had a cicada that used to attach itself to my balcony wall and sing away regardless of what I was doing. I like to think it was the same one every day and we became friends in that we tolerated each other. Not here thi...
