Re: Kalamata to Kissamos Ferry

The service is up and running again.

The current winter timetable is here (in Greek)

Timetables will vary with the season, and you shouldn't expect to hear about the summer timetable until about a month before the change comes into effect (this is Greece, after all!)

Re: Medical Insurance

We were with InterAmerican for several years, and they paid promptly and easily when we had to claim. We are now with EuroLife, because they are cheaper - we haven't had to claim on this insurance (yet!) You can try Elias Papaevgeniadis for a quote on 697 347 1638 (based in Chania) (details posted w...

Re: Residence permits.

Also, let your irritation show during the process and there's a chance that the cooperative official you're dealing with becomes less so and loses most of his/her ability to understand English or your Greek then demands another document you don't have. When you return another document you don't hav...

Re: Residence permits.

Our buff permits were issued in October 2007. I'm quite annoyed that we have to go through the rigmarole to get a permanent one, since this one has no expiry date (but, as you imply, has expired), but it *is* the 'Βεβαίωση ' rather than the 'Eγγραφο', so it looks like we will have to bite the bullet...

Re: Kalamata to Kissamos Ferry

Yes, unfortunately, the Vincenzo Kornaros which was the ferry for that route was laid up for major repairs for so long this year that the government took the contract from LANE, the route provider. As far as I know, a new contract has been negotiated, and the new ferry "Ionis" is being fit...

Re: Exchange rates

..........and then I woke up from this amazing dream. There's no harm in trying it. It can always be tinkered with, as and when required, just as past economic systems have been. No-one is saying that it will be a success from day one, as Warwick says, he thinks that there will still have to be som...

Re: Exchange rates

Good analysis, Warwick! I'd just like to add the following: Anything can act as money ...or, in fact, 'nothing'. We just all have to agree to do some work - this can be much more flexible than the current system of work - we will all be able to change jobs whenever we like, do something that is our ...

Re: Exchange rates

I guess for some people this may make a major difference in their ability to live comfortably in Crete. But, of course, they would have to factor in the expenses of moving back to the UK, plus the increased living expenses of UK living. Certainly, for us, unless the economic, social and medical bene...

... It states that it was last updated: 01-10-2013, hence my remark that I cannot find up-to-date information. Not a personal attack on the quality of your information Warwick, I was just pointing to the latest information - and considering the state Greece is in, it's likely to stay the latest inf...

Re: TV / digital Radio

Technically a digital radio should work in Greece BUT I am not sure what the situation is regarding digital broadcasts as I cannot find up-to-date information. From - Wikipedia - 02/08/17: There is interest in the DAB family of standards in Greece and, although no services are on air, DAB radios ar...

Re: What to get - New Computer

Ah! What computer to get depends very largely on your budget for it, and any peripherals you might want. Another major issue regards what you want to use it for. Both are interlinked. So, if you name a price, plus have an idea it's function and anything you want to buy with it, we will all be making...

...it's the Express... Is there any more to be said than that? You could add your words of wisdom ? OK - sorry, I assumed that most people would have the same outlook on the tabloids of today. I grew up in a household where only the Express was available, because that was the only daily publication...

...as one of the last remaining unregulated 'professions', politics does attract its share of the sociopathic and other derangement tendencies, I'm sure. As for the Monster Raving Loony party, I've had a look at their manifesto, and somehow it just doesn't look credible. (and I bet it hasn't been co...
