Re: Politics

A philosopher, whose name I cannot remember Wasn't it Plato, in The Republic ? Don't you get a sneaking feeling that many countries are now in that collapse of democracy phase? Most definitely. My personal feeling is that it's due exactly to the fact that, as you say Nobody looks at the fundamental...

Re: A Thought for the Day

Good luck with getting people to watch it, Warwick, let alone understand it for what it is. I find, from the general population, that people are not interested in learning about the exponential function. Coming from a working class family, as I did, the desire to understand such information is not t...

Re: Change Of Heart?

This is an interesting philosophical conundrum, isn't it? Should we debate the topic of Brexit on "Living In Crete", when the topic itself challenges the very ability of the British contingent of posters on "Living in Crete" to actually continue living in Crete? Hmmm....

Re: Storm Clouds.

Brits may have to jump a couple of hoops to stay but my best guess is it won't be a problem and will be the same for EU members in the UK. Of course, the real problem is that we just don't know yet - More than 2 years after the vote, we still know nothing concrete. Whatever side they're on the peop...

...everybody is entitled to be mistaken as well, it seems... Really, it takes no time to do a little research before posting - otherwise what you post just falls into the category of 'fake news'. Greece is the 6th most taxed country in Europe in 2016 (net taxation), according to Quartz Media LLC - t...

Re: Storm Clouds.

Could you not see that you MIGHT have to return?? But..., but..., but that would require intelligence and foresight, surely? :D Yes we do have intelligence and foresight and can see that we MIGHT have to return. Why else would we sell our house and take up rented accommodation again? Bob. Bob - yes...

Re: Artists's Modelling Clay

You could try in some book and toy shops - the last modelling clay I bought "Staedtler Fimo Air Basic", came from a bookshop called Επιλογές at Andrea Papandreou 95, Chania 731 32 or, just along the road, you could try at Βιβλία-Χαρτικά Librairie at Andrea Papandreou 75, Chania 731 32, whi...

Re: Storm Clouds.

Do you really think that Greece is going to kick out the UK expats. The ONS estimates that there are approximately 20,000 UK nationals resident in Greece - this is about 0.18% of the Greek population at the last census in 2016. I don't know how many UK nationals are tax-resident in Greece, but it's...

Re: Junker

Let me first say that I am no fan of Juncker or the neoliberal leanings of the EU. Having said that, I have had many episodes of back pain, once leading to sciatica. If you haven't had it, you don't know how debilitating it can be. I spent the whole of my sister's wedding on my back, on the grass ou...

Re: resident permit - cream or blue

My only worry in applying for the permanent residency certificate is that we are not tax resident in Greece. If we have the permanent certificate, it could well be argued that we ought to be tax resident, and that's a can of worms I don't really want to open - particularly if we end up with a Brexit...

Re: resident permit - cream or blue

The advice for those who have been here 5 years is to apply for the permanent one because, if the preliminary agreement reached in December comes into force, it should be easier to exchange that for the new residence document after the UK leaves the UK. Do you have a source for this Warwick? I've b...
