Alternative Electricity Supplier

I've been approached by a company called "KEN" offering to supply me with electricity about 25% cheaper than ΔΕΗ. Checked their website and all seems above board. Have any other members of this forum been approached or even switched? Any information would be appreciated.

Re: Express Bus Service

Also, as a matter of interest, this KTEL website is searchable and details all aspects of the route you choose and gives you a fare. You can even buy and print out your tickets!! https://www.ktelherlas.gr/en/routes-9

Express Bus Service

I'm looking for a reasonably fast and convenient way for a friend to travel by bus from Agios Nikolaos in Lasithi, to Kalives in Apokorona. I find the transport web sites a bit confusing. Do any of the good people of this forum have any advice on this matter they are willing to share. (Apart from &q...

Re: E1 tax submission - prove you're married??

I agree. And, for the record, my wife and I sold up in the UK eleven years ago and built a house here to live in permanently. Our accountant insists that under current agreements we can be "tax resident" in the UK unde the clause cited by Warwick above. Moreover almost all of our income is...

Re: Tax Resident or 365 Day Tourist in Perpetuity

My accountant's advice is the same as yours. (May be the same accountant, or another of the prominent accountants in Chania?) I have lived here on pensions paid and taxed in the UK. Given that an accountant here, unlike in the UK, assiduously cultivates good working relations with the Tax Office, I'...

Re: Medical costs

It's not particularly complicated. If you have an S1 form you need to take it, together with your passport and residence permit to your nearest IKA office, which will be busy as usual. They may tell you you'll need more documentation, which you'll need to bring from home and attend another day. They...

Re: Crete driving is appalling !

Did Kissamos High Street quite recently, and on a school day, you know, that point in the day when the traffic is at its most congested. Sorry - it wasn't even slightly a problem. Compared to Skalidi in Chania it was a dawdle. We often go to Kissamos for lunch and have never found it to be remarkabl...

Re: Cost of prescription medicines

If you check the UK EHIC card website I believe you'll find that the card provides for more than "emergency" cover. If in an EU country or Switzerland, you can use it for emergency treatment and for treatment relating to existing conditions, provided that the need for said treatment arises...

Re: Crete driving is appalling !

Lived here for ten years and had a car all of that time. Was terrified for the first two weeks and intimidated by driving in cities. However a little research and sympathetic thinking have allayed all the fears. Yes there is, or was until recently, a rule asking drivers to give way to the right. It ...

Re: Upturned bottles on fence posts.....

I can confirm that bottles on fence posts are for safety purposes. In order to train trees, especially mulberries for shade, gardeners often hang bottles with varying weights of water in them to hold a branch, or branches, horizontal while it grows. It's simple but effective. If they're upright and ...

Re: cash withdrawals

Not much human society in an ATM sadly. Our humans in the Pancrita Bank are pretty accommodating in general and seem to be able to circumvent the rules that the ATM interprets so rigidly. We've been to the wedding of one, and for a stunning fish dinner with another and they are endlessly helpful. We...

Re: cash withdrawals

In which case I have no explanation. We only use our cards at an ATM in extremis . Such as when there's a big queue at our bank, or we're abroad. Inside the bank staff keep us as right as they can and even they admit to being not fully au fait with the current system. However I can assure you I have...

Re: cash withdrawals

One explanation, Warwick might be that your card limit (as distinct from your cash limit under capital controls) might only be 600 which I believe is a standard sum for debit card withdrawals at an ATM. We asked for ours to be raised to 1,000Euros and have had no problem since. Again, I like to go i...

Re: cash withdrawals

First Warwick, yes, under the old regime, you could draw out your full allowance on Friday and again on Monday (or even Saturday afternoon) when the weekly cut off was Saturday morning. I did it quite a lot. But never to pay builders - perish the thought! Keeping up with the changes is not easy I kn...
