Re: Transferring Pension

If you have any winnings on the premium bonds they need to be declared as though they were interest and would probably be taxed at 15 %. This is a debatable area. Interest paid on government bonds is non-taxable in Greece. Since National Savings and Investments is wholly owned by the UK government I...

Re: The Will of the People

I’m converted! I just didn’t realise that the EU were just full of good people with good intentions and can do no wrong. In fact they are so perfect it’s almost angelic. The Eurozone is stable and all the countries economies are growing at an unbelievable rate. Just wait until they close the trade ...

Re: Transferring Pension

How long have you lived and worked in Jersey? Is it unreasonable that you would have savings in Jersey from that period of your life? Suppose you had a property in Jersey that you sold and only spent half the proceeds on a house in Crete. That could leave you with a considerable amount of savings in...

Re: The Will of the People

I can't understand why people don't get it. The Withdrawal Agreement is nothing to do with future relationships. It was always about what happens on day one when the UK leaves. Really it was always intended to be about settling the bill and that's according to the man who wrote Article 50, a UK Lord...

Re: Transferring Pension

If you are tax resident in Greece you declare your UK pension to the Greek tax authorities and you are taxed on that amount, subject to any conditions in the Double Taxation Agreement. It doesn't matter whether you transfer more, it all or nothing. It is people who are not tax resident here that ten...

Re: Transferring Pension

I'm tax resident here and I have my pension paid into my UK bank account. I allow it to mount up and then transfer a lump sum to my Greek bank account periodically using Currency Fair to do the conversion. Transfer Wise are equally good and I know several people who use them in the same way. You get...

Re: The Will of the People

I think all the candidates apart from Rory Stewart are vying for a senior cabinet post whoever wins. I think he knows he won't win and probably won't get offered a cabinet position so he is saying what he thinks, which is quite refreshing whether you agree with what he thinks or not. He also has a v...

Re: Cosmote internet router problem

I doubt if it is a systemic problem with the Speedport router. I and several of my friends are using the same one with no real problems. I stream a lot of video in real time, which puts a lot of pressure on the system, and it rarely falters. My underwater problem occurs only on Skype and then not of...

Re: Cosmote internet router problem

...frequently during conversations, it sounds like the other person is talking under water... I get something similar to this problem with Skype running on my desktop PC, which also uses VOIP type protocols. I don't leave Skype running all the time; I only run Skype when I want to talk to one of my...

Re: Water Cooler

Let me know how you get on. I have been considering getting a water cooler but, as usual, doing nothing about it. A supplier in Varypetro would be very convenient for me.

Re: The Will of the People

I am all in favour of editing down quoted comments in order to reply to them but you need to be more careful with your editing, Keltz. If you read my post that you quoted my comment about "proactively instrumental in brain washing people over many decades for their own(er's) agenda" was ex...

Re: Water Cooler

Nera Kritis supply them. Although the number given on the web page is in Heraklion I think they do have a base in Varypetro, near Chania off the Omalos road. You could try contacting them there . There is another listed with Nera Kritis, CRETA HELLAS but they don't have a web site so I am not sure ...

Re: What is the procedure to get my car repaired

Don't do anything before contacting your insurer. Mine, ERGO, has a 24 hour contact number that you are supposed to ring immediately so if yours operates the same I would try now even though it is Sunday. Insurance companies tend to have a list of repair shops that they work with so you will probabl...
