Re: Retirement in crete

If you wish to live permanently in any country in the world you need some sort of legal permission from that country to do so. Up to the UK leaving the EU you had a legal right to live in any other EU country provided you satisfied certain conditions, e.g. having sufficient money/income to support y...

Re: Driving Licences

Have you tried contacting DVLA in the UK and told them what the Greek authority is saying? When I had a problem getting an EHIC from DWP they claimed IKA had not returned Part 2 of the S1 Form to prove I was registered and IKA claimed they didn't need to return Part 2, which I think is untrue. I wro...

Re: IKA and AMKA

Probably the first blue permit you had was the old residence permit that lasted five years and had to be renewed. A new Directive 2004/38/EC came into force in April 2004 with member states having to implement it in national law no later than April 2006. Your new, beige, document is an initial Resid...

Re: Citizens Rights Amendment

Thanks for the information, Carol. An MP with some common sense. I have been here too long to have representation in the UK but I have sent an email to the MP for the constituency where I last lived urging him to support the amendment.

Re: Driving Licences

Yes, but not all KEP offices are equally helpful, it all depends on the local staff. I gave up going to the KEP office in Gerani because whatever I asked they couldn't do it. When I went to a different office, surprise surprise, they could. Going to KEP slows the process down a little, because they ...

Re: Upgrade your Beige Registration Certificate

I still do not understand why people applying for the 5 year residency certificate are asked to provide proof of healthcover? The Directive governing EU nationals, DIRECTIVE 2004/38/EC, which is the law under which we currently get a 5 year certificate explicitly states that it is not necessary. The...

The NBKtouristic web site does say that they cannot take direct bookings and to contact your travel agent so I suppose that anybody who wants to try and book would need to contact the Cretanholidays address linked by Clio.

Your old member name still exists, Jane, i.e. without the "m".

Re: The Will of the People

I think the proposition put to the UK electorate in the referendum was completely clear and precise, Keltz. The UK would leave the single market and the customs union. It would stop contributing to the EU budget, it would stop implementing EU laws and be free to modify/repeal existing UK legislation...

Re: Letter from the Greek Govt

I think it is a question of how reciprocal healthcare is administered. Better to have a single EU wide mechanism than 27 different mechanisms. This was also talked about by the Embassy at the outreach meeting, i.e. that member states were waiting to see if there was going to be a common EU position ...

Re: IKA and AMKA

Understood. I was having trouble translating the last bullet point in the "What do I pay" section. I presume effectively, i.e. not literally, it reads: For medicines issued under a prescription you have to pay the same as someone who has insurance unless you fit into one of the categories ...

Re: Letter from the Greek Govt

It was linked first by Mackie on page 36 of the "Will of the People" thread. It is better here as a specific topic since it is too important to get buried in the morass. I would encourage people to comment on it on this thread rather than the other one. I'll repeat my comment from that thr...

Re: IKA and AMKA

So what is the purpose of the table in the originally linked document that talks about limits on income, property value, and bank deposits for different family groups, e.g. single, family with no dependants, family with one dependant etc? What do those amounts limit ? What happens if you exceed thos...

Re: The Will of the People

Excellent document, Mackie, thanks for posting it. It basically urges the UK to ratify the Withdrawal Agreement as the best solution but in the case that is not possible the closing paragraphs state: Allow me to assure you that the British citizens already living in Greece are welcomed and enjoyed o...
