Re: Collecting receipts

If you don't already have a Greek bank account the restrictions on opening one have now been lifted, i.e. you no longer need to pay in a large amount of money. You might find it more cost effective to open one and transfer money to it using Currency Fair or Transfer Wise rather than drawing from a f...

Re: Transferring funds, and pink slips

I'm not sure what the latest situation is on "pink slips". I am tax resident so they are not relevant to me. I will make a couple of comments, however. First you need to understand why pink slips were used. Greece operates a system of presumed/imputed income. In the UK HMRC will sometimes ...

Re: Collecting receipts

If you are tax resident in Greece you must declare your world wide income to the Greek tax authority and it is all assessed for tax under the Greek tax code, taking account of any relief through Double Taxation Agreements. Under the Greek tax code there is no tax free allowance, as there is in the U...

Re: Angiologist

If you put Angiologists into Yellow Pages you don't get any hits on Crete at all and only 32 in the whole of Greece. If you put in Vascular Surgeons you only get three in Chania so it looks like there is not a lot of choice. Yellow pages also lists one for Rethymnon and nine for Heraklion . I'm not ...

I suppose they may as well. I can't imagine they would have anything better to do?

Re: Land Plot and sqm of house

Crete Perfect Home has an interactive page giving details of the rules in different zones. Just move your cursor over the map to get the rules in different areas. Don't forget to try the two roads. I cannot guarantee it is up-to-date but if you contacted them I think they would help.

Re: Unsupported hardware Win 7 updates

Totally agree, Joan. Older machines with older processors could not be upgraded to Windows 10 BUT those older machines can still receive updates for Windows 7, at least as long as Microsoft continue supplying them. I wasn't suggesting that everybody should have upgraded to Windows 10. What I was que...

Re: Unsupported hardware Win 7 updates

As far as I can tell Windows 7 updates are only blocked on modern processors, e,g, Intel 7th-Generation Kaby Lake processors and AMD “Bristol Ridge” Rizen chips or later. Since Windows 10 was released in July 2015, with free upgrade from Windows 7 or 8.1 up to July 2016, and Kaby Lake processors wer...

Especially if you're stuck behind a 90 year old doing 15 kph in a pickup truck that looks older than him.

Perhaps because half of the existing road is now in the sea?

Re: Kalamatisi

There is a Kalamitsi Alexandrou and a Kalamitsi Amigdali on the road from Vrysses to Exopoli so I am guessing it is one of them. Not far from the junction with the road from Vamos to Exopoli.

Re: Where to purchase a Pressure Washer in Chania

HSS have a number of tool hire stores around Greece but, unfortunately, not on Crete. I don't know whether it is possible to get something sent from one of the mainland depots to Crete but you could contact them and ask. It might be possible for smaller items. When I worked in northern Greece we of...

Re: Where to purchase a Pressure Washer in Chania

I bought my Nilfisk one from e-shop as a package deal with some extra attachments. The floor scrubber attachment was broken when it arrived. It took months to get a replacement, which was also broken. It must have been getting on for a year after I bought it before I got a working part. As far as I ...

It does look like the registration lasts a long time. I registered to vote in the municipal elections in 2010 and I am still showing as registered.

Re: Selling and how to get the funds to the UK?

My guess, but it is only a guess, would be a relatively big change for business and a relatively small change for individuals. Capital controls were introduced to stop money fleeing the country. Unfortunately that has the side effect of limiting business, i.e. a manufacturer who needs to import comm...
