Re: Buying a car

Although this thread is about getting a residence certificate it contains lots of information on buying a car, including how to do it without a residence certificate.

Re: Surgeon

I can't comment on his skills as a neurosurgeon but I've had consultations with him and he seems a pretty good neurologist. He diagnosed a minor neurological problem I had purely on the basis of the symptoms and an examination in his office. He then sent me off for a range of tests and the results o...

Re: Medical Insurance

I would point out that in my earlier post I make no judgement about what people should or should not do. Everybody must make his/her own decisions. I simply tried to clarify what the rules are and how they may be circumvented.

Re: Medical Insurance

You are correct that it is not intended only for emergency care BUT it is only intended for people who are resident in the UK and are travelling abroad for short periods. It is not really valid for anybody who has moved permanently to Greece and is resident here. Apart for cover for State Pensioners...

Re: Purchasing a house (and paying for it!)

We had actually transferred the money from the UK to the estate agent's bank account* and he had gone and drawn it out in cash so if it was short it was his problem. We were only buying the land at that time and then built the house.

It's a good beach for swimming, especially at the western end. The headland between Agios Apostoli and Chrysi Akti seems to provide some protection from the wind. The long straight stretch to the west through Gerani and Maleme is prone to rip tides under some conditions and I have never seen anythin...

... because we are not charged on every bill for the number of days the bill covers... I am surprised that you are not charged on every bill? I am. There was a period from around September 2013 to May 2014 when ERT was closed down and no charge was made. Before the close down it was €50.88 per year...

Ah, the good old days when you simply handed over a wodge of cash in the notary's office and the relevant parties went outside and divvied it up to suit them all.

Re: Reupholster an orthopaedic office chair

You could try phoning some of these. The top one is in Attica. There are four general upholsterers at the bottom of the page. No idea if you need special skill for an orthopaedic office chair.

Dog Poisoning

I am told that there has been a lot of dog poisoning at Chrysi Akti beach to the west of Chania. If you are in the habit of walking your dog down there be very careful or go elsewhere.

When Which magazine did an objective test the only thing that worked was Deet, which is not surprising since it was developed by the US military to stop soldiers getting bitten in jungle warfare. The stronger the solution the better it worked.

Except that I am not sure that a people's vote will resolve anything really.

Re: Cyprus publishes residence rights for British nationals after Brexit

I think that particular document is only dealing with the residence part of the Withdrawal Agreement. Healthcare is a separate part of the Withdrawal Agreement and under that section it simply continues as before so I would guess it doesn't need a new procedure?
