Re: Money Moving Post Brexit

I also have UK pensions paid into a UK bank account and then move lump sums, as needed, to a Crete bank account using Currency Fair to convert from Sterling to Euro. I have found this to be the most cost effective way to do it. There is a slight problem with this method for anybody who gave up havin...

Having experience of stone amphitheatres I would recommend taking a thick cushion.

Re: UNBLOCKING PHONE

A quick further thought on this thread. Do you mean "Unblocking" or "Unlocking"? 1 "Unlocking" refers to the situation where a phone is tied to a particular SIM/network and you want to unlock it from that network so you can use a SIM from a different network. Providing ...

Re: UNBLOCKING PHONE

I don't know anywhere for certain that can do it but I would suggest three places to ask: 1 The shop on the corner next to the bus station where the Bank of Cyprus used to be. 2 The shop on the corner of Apokoronou and Bouniali opposite the small triangular park on Apokoronou before you get to the j...

Re: Any advice on starting a business in Crete?

I think what the discussion illustrates is the difference between a "business idea" and a "business plan". As an ex-business manager I would say DobbyThehouseElf has a "business idea" but, as yet, he doesn't have a "business plan". Most people I know regard st...

Re: Advance Notice - RHD Van For Sale

Since it's UK registered it might be worth telling potential buyers by what date it has to be out of Greece, Tim, i.e. 6 months after it arrived.

Re: Ears syringed

He's at 17 Tzanakaki Street. The marker on the linked map is not completely accurate. Tzanakai Street runs away from the Cross Market and has a branch of the National Bank of Greece on the corner. If you walk up it on the left hand side with your back to the Cross Market you pass the tax office, the...

Re: Ears syringed

I've always used THEOFANIS LAMPRINAKIS in the centre of Chania. He is an ear, nose and throat specialist who uses a suction machine to remove wax rather than syringing. It is regarded as a safer method. Typically GPs in the UK will not syringe unless the ear canal is totally blocked, as they claim t...

Re: Whither the Weather?

About 2 minutes of rain Saturday afternoon to the south west of Chania. Just enough to put a sheen on the terrace tiles.

PS Started to rain quite heavily here about 5 minutes after I posted this.

Order in the UK, e.g. ebay, and ship through Nomad if they won't ship abroad.

Re: Whither the Weather?

From the weather reports I've looked at we aren't exactly talking monsoon conditions. Perhaps 10 mm of rain spread over 5 days. Maximum daily temperature perhaps dropping as low as 28 C with minimum night time temperature down to 20 C. Not exactly Arctic. It would probably class as a heatwave in the...

Re: Any advice on starting a business in Crete?

While I don't disagree with the figures you post I would still advise caution. The market does appear to be bottoming out but it may be a false bottom. Greek banks have over 40 % non-performing loans and many of those are mortgages. Despite a lot of pressure from Greece's creditors, so far there has...

Re: Fillipos help

You could also try Holiday Cars Chania . They are effectively a price comparison site so they search a lot of hire car companies, but not necessarily some of the smaller ones. I think Flisvos is one that Filippos has mentioned in the past, although that might have been in the context of buying used ...

Re: Small World

Since dam building is such a new, innovative, high-tech activity it is perhaps not surprising that Greece does not have the necessary engineering expertise to implement it successfully?
