Update on Flight Delay Compensation

When I complained about the amount easyJet were intending to pay I offered to supply them with account details for a Euro account so that they could pay the full €400 without converting to Sterling. I got another email from easyJet about a week ago saying that they would make the payment in Euro, wi...

Re: Knocked into Second Place

Tell me about it. Coming back from my last visit to the UK I had a 2 hour delay, spent sat on the plane at the stand. The cause? French ATC were on strike in Marseilles but because of that we couldn't transit French air space at all. There was bad weather over Germany, which caused lots of delays in...

Knocked into Second Place

Greek air traffic controllers need to up their game after being beaten into second place by their French counterparts. See Question 1 of BBC 7 Day News Quiz. Surely this is an area where Greece ought to be on top?

Re: Money Moving Post Brexit

Filippos is correct. People who are tax resident in Greece and assessed for tax on their worldwide income in Greece can qualify for a tax rebate. It is roughly equivalent to having a tax free allowance but administered in a different way. In order to qualify for the full rebate they must spend a cer...

Re: Money Moving Post Brexit

When cash finally disappears, as governments around the world want and are pushing for, we will have surrendered all liberty.

Re: Currencyfair

Funny things bank transfers. Payments are made through SWIFT . From the Wikipedia article: SWIFT does not facilitate funds transfer: rather, it sends payment orders, which must be settled by correspondent accounts that the institutions have with each other. Each financial institution, to exchange ba...

Re: Any advice on starting a business in Crete?

Ασπιρίνη is specifically Aspirin not the more generic "medicine". Medicine would be Φάρμακο or possibly Ιατρικό. For example when I go to renew my prescription I ask for Φάρμακα. Φάρμακο is also used for agricultural chemicals such as fertiliser and plant disease treatments/preventatives. ...

Re: Any advice on starting a business in Crete?

Personally I prefer Τσίπουρο from northern and central Greece, which is made in the same way as Τσικουδιά, i.e. from the residue of the grape pressing, but has a little γλυκάνισο in it. It tends to be drunk with the meal, especially starters or a fish meal, with quite a lot of ice, rather than after...

Re: Money Moving Post Brexit

I also have UK pensions paid into a UK bank account and then move lump sums, as needed, to a Crete bank account using Currency Fair to convert from Sterling to Euro. I have found this to be the most cost effective way to do it. There is a slight problem with this method for anybody who gave up havin...

Re: UNBLOCKING PHONE

A quick further thought on this thread. Do you mean "Unblocking" or "Unlocking"? 1 "Unlocking" refers to the situation where a phone is tied to a particular SIM/network and you want to unlock it from that network so you can use a SIM from a different network. Providing ...

Re: UNBLOCKING PHONE

I don't know anywhere for certain that can do it but I would suggest three places to ask: 1 The shop on the corner next to the bus station where the Bank of Cyprus used to be. 2 The shop on the corner of Apokoronou and Bouniali opposite the small triangular park on Apokoronou before you get to the j...

Re: Any advice on starting a business in Crete?

I think what the discussion illustrates is the difference between a "business idea" and a "business plan". As an ex-business manager I would say DobbyThehouseElf has a "business idea" but, as yet, he doesn't have a "business plan". Most people I know regard st...

Re: Advance Notice - RHD Van For Sale

Since it's UK registered it might be worth telling potential buyers by what date it has to be out of Greece, Tim, i.e. 6 months after it arrived.
