Re: New Referal System in EOPPY

Thanks Stavros. If we are all already allocated to an EOPPY doctor based on our AMKA number how do we find out who that doctor is? I was allocated a doctor when I first got my IKA book. The doctor's name, address and telephone number used to be on the slip that was attached to my IKA book every year...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Protergia for power instead of DEH

An article in ekathimerini provides some advice from the Energy Regulatory Authority on evaluating if a change is worthwhile. Rather general but it might be useful to somebody.

Re: New Referal System in EOPPY

Thanks for the information, Carol. I normally pay to see a specialist privately and even pay a private pathologos for my IKA prescriptions. It's only €20 for three months and I would rather pay €7 per month than wait for hours in the village doctor's waiting room. Could you try to find one extra pie...

Re: Visiting the IKA office in Hania

It's pretty simple although there will inevitably be a queue. If you stand on the Souda road looking at the IKA compound the buildings are in the shape of a square U and you are stood in the open end of the U. The building you want is the leg of the U on your right. Go through the right hand gate, w...

Any plumber will do it for you. Ignore the first three.

Re: Piraeus Bank ATM Withdrawal Charge

I think it's a decision by the Greek banks to levy a charge on foreign cards so it doesn't really matter what sort of card they are. Effectively they are charging you for using their ATM. I could be wrong.

Re: Water Shortage

From a practical point of view a bowser would work for filling a pool from scratch, when you need a large quantity of water all at once, but it doesn't really work for topping up the pool, when you need a small amount of water on a regular basis, unless you have a really massive storage tank. More i...

Re: Water Shortage

I am not sure, Andrew. There are plenty of instructions in the letter to not use hosepipes and the letter does refer to a ministerial decision but I don't know if it is an outright ban enforceable by legal sanctions or not.

Re: New Referal System in EOPPY

I think there are quite a lot, Andrew. I think every EOPPY pathologos is a family doctor. What I am not certain about is why the sudden need to register now? When you get your IKA book you are registered to a family doctor. For all who went through the process of getting a renewal slip in their IKA ...

Re: Broadband provider

I can't speak specifically about Plakias but I think the following general description will probably apply. The only completely uncapped service is landline based broadband, assuming you can get a landline in your area capable of supporting it. Many rural areas cannot, because the cables are long an...

Re: Cyprus or Crete ?

Yes, John, when the solidarity tax was first introduced the total income determined what percentage rate to apply and then that percentage rate was applied to the whole income. When they increased the percentage rates they changed it to operate more like income tax, i.e. each percentage rate applies...

Re: Piraeus Bank ATM Withdrawal Charge

Original ekathimerini article. I am posting it for the last sentence, which isn't in the Apokoronas News version. With around 45 % of their total loan book classed as Non-Performing-Loans it isn't really surprising that they aren't making much profit from interest.

Water Shortage

In case anybody is in any doubt that water shortage on Crete is real, below is a translation of a letter I received from ΔΕΥΑΒΑ, the water company supplying my area: Dear consumers of water Based on the data of 35 meteorological stations that are established in the entire region of Crete, the rainfa...
