Re: Mobile phone scam

A few weeks ago I visited the Germanos shop in Souda to obtain information on the lowest cost Cosmote pay-as-you-go tariff. They quoted me a silly high price, which I mentally binned. Subsequently, I was told by a third party that I should have gone to a Cosmote outlet, because they will offer lower...

Re: The Will of the People

The famous bus displayed the following words: "We send the EU £350 million a week let's fund our NHS instead" The verb "send" is reasonably clear in meaning. The verb "fund" led to definitions such as "When a person or organization funds something, they provide mon...

Re: OTE Landline contracts

I had a telephone call after 2 years of the contract. I was offered a renewal at slightly less than I had been paying. I accepted the offer there and then. That was it, the contract was renewed without further ado. No forms, just a verbal acceptance during the same call. Suits me!

Re: The Will of the People

The article is headed "... Custom Controls ...", and then comments on movement of goods and people.
It seems to me to be remarkably contemporary for a pre-referendum article!

Re: Flights

Interesting discussion. As usual it's Warwick who presents the documented facts. Which actually are there for all who care to look can find. It's my belief that business will have most influence on UK prosperity. Broadly speaking, each business makes decisions based on a single figure in their busin...

Re: money transfer

I've done a number of transfers using TransferWise. Analysis after the event shows that the actual rate I've got has been about 0.5% below the rate shown on Yahoo Finance. My calculation is always actual euros received divided by actual pounds paid. None of the other transfers I've made over the yea...

Re: "Smart" TV

Thanks for the comments and the links Warwick.

I have had a look at both Chromecast and Roku, and the latter seems a more practical approach. Especially if I can get a UK VPN set up to go with it.

Re: "Smart" TV

I've had a brief look at Chromecast it's not clear what the advantage is over a computer/TV combination. (apart from the wireless connection perhaps). Any Chromecast users out there who could enlighten me as to what else it provides? (preferably from first-hand experience!)

Re: Wind telephone service

Topdriller is quite right. From experience there's nothing wrong with Wind, but OTE does not provide the same service to Wind customers as it does to its own. Reluctantly advise OTE!

Re: "Smart" TV

From the posts so far I conclude that the combination of a computer and TV (ideally connected by HDMI) is a requirement if a variety of entertainment channels is desired. A Smart TV has no immediate advantage over this combination. Am I correct? Would, say, a Samsung Smart TV purchased in the UK hav...

An interesting debate, but difficult to know what the facts really are. However, these are facts: in the UK I use electricity and natural gas in the house. 10% of my energy usage is electricity, 90% gas. It seems that the main products of the combustion of natural gas are carbon dioxide and water va...

For those who use Bank of Cyprus - I've asked them if and when an online bill payment facility for Car Tax will be available.

They said from 26th November.

Thanks for the info Warwick. Couldn't find a similar entry on the Bank of Cyprus website. Everything else was there. So I didn't have any problems! From other posts, and my experience, it looks like the pdf is reader application AND printer sensitive! As you say, looks like a visit to the bank. Keep...
