Re: Kent Report

Come on Carolina no need to be so touchy! Of course the Kent Report is not off topic. Anything that adversely affects the Channel ports will have a knock-on effect on Crete Greece ie people driving to and from Crete, deliveries of goods to Crete, repatriation of corpses etc. I read posts all over t...

Re: Property Register declaration

In case anybody is panicking, I checked with my accountant and this is an area specific requirement not nationwide. For example it is not a requirement in the Chania area at the moment, although it will be at some time in the future. As I posted earlier, registration with the national land registry...

Re: Currency Index

Anyone who has used Transferwise - how long does it normally take for a transfer to arrive in a Greek bank account (National Bank in my case), from the time it has been sent from Transferwise?

Thanks.

Re: Greece strikes, other potential disruptions & Bank Holidays

Christmas and New Year shop opening hours. Shops in Greece have extended opening hours in the week leading up to, and the weekend before, Christmas. Also between the Christmas and New Year period. See https://livingincrete-carolina.blogspot.com/2018/12/christmas-new-year-opening-hours-2018.html?fbc...

Re: Greek Driving Licence

If you do a bit of Googling in Greek there is a lot of info/news about this new test for over 74 year olds renewing Greek driving licences, and it appears to have been brought in as law already this summer, but there is a backlog with tests so the government have given a 3/4 month extension for thos...

Sorry Mouche. Mr B is - or should I say 'was' - indeed a returning troll.

Re: The Will of the People

Flying intra-Schengen (e.g. Greece to Belgium) is where the problems may arise for UK passport holders as the rest of the plane won't even go through immigration controls. But according to the pundits, the Brits should. How are they going to work that one I wonder (see my earlier post). Bob. Once y...

Re: Anyone Working?

Thank you Warwick. I didn't know about the minimum requirement of qualifying years in the UK. I have only perhaps 7 or 8 years contributions in the UK and over 15 in Greece. I'm not quite clear now as to whether I should be making voluntary contributions in the UK to make it up to the minimum, regar...

Re: Applying for Greek Citizenship

This is copied from the Greek Embassy web site in the UK: Aliens of non Greek origin, spouses of Greek nationals, are not entitled to apply for naturalization, as described above, at a Greek Consular Authority. They need to reside in Greece in order to have their application examined. The naturaliz...

Re: Applying for Greek Citizenship

I've done a bit of searching and found the law - 4531/2018 Article 31: https://www.lawspot.gr/nomika-nea/oi-nees-diataxeis-peri-ithageneias-nomos-4531-2018 The length of time of legal residence prior to applying is shown on a table at the bottom of that page. It seems to be 3 years for an EU citizen.

Re: Applying for Greek Citizenship

Many thanks indeed for this information. Does anybody know how fluent you need to be to pass the Greek language test? Jeff Jeff, I imagine you need to be pretty fluent, whatever that means though?! I would imagine a good first test is that you can read and understand/translate the Greek text above?...
