Re: Pireaus Bank

Greece imposed capital controls to stem a flight of cash from its banks in July 2015, when, at the height of its debt crisis, it faced bankruptcy and a euro exit. Unfortunately, Greece is still bankrupt. Please bring on the euro exit - at last the totally shafted younger generation might have a cha...

Re: Help! Got the toothache!

I'm glad you have had relief via Raki :) (or was that meant to be Reiki :) If your toothaches is stemming from perhaps an infection (trying to rear its head) then γαρίφαλο (clove oil) is one of nature's natural antibiotic agents - ditto tea tree oil - you could try mixing a few drops of one or the o...

Re: Water Shortage

Am I to understand that filling the pool with drinkingwater for which I'm paying is illegal? Same for watering the garden? According to a mid aged Greek friend with connections to the water company, first fill of the pool should be by tanker. Top up via house water is accepted. Watering a garden is...

Re: Water Shortage

In your original question you didn't mention really stupid ex pats, I suppose Greeks don't have pools??

Of course Greek people also have pools - this is an expat forum really though isn't it?

I should have said *stupid people*,

Re: Water Shortage

What's the legal position re people filling and keeping their wretched swimming pools topped up with mains water supply? Ask all the hotels because they will all be doing it, got to top up pools no matter what. Yes, hotels will operate to their own particular *understanding* of (everything - sewage...

(Sorry) I didn't make any distinction between Europe EU - I was referring to the physical land mass that is Europe.

Europe has been free of war for the past seventy three years. The EU has played a major part in this miraculous development. So you wish to jeopardise this union by the voting to leave

So e.g. no war in Serbia, Bosnia, Kosova ?

New security check online purchasing

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/article-6012549/Shoppers-soon-need-code-use-card-online-year.html I'm sure I read on this forum about the above (but can't find the reference); anyway, because I don't have a mobile this new rule rather bothered me. I finally spoke to Barclays Visa a few days ago - I...

Mars is current closest to the earth since 2003 - I remember it then, very red and it felt like it was so close it might be plucked from the sky.

Apocalyptic conditions :)

That's pretty unusual unless you are tax resident.

Re: Santander Debit Card

The Rethymnon branches are the pits; the Vamos branch is wonderful and well worth the drive rather than wait (usually about an hour) for so-called service :) I admit to loathing said bank also due to the Samaras connection.

Re: Santander Debit Card

may do what Barclays are doing now (BREXIT -related we think) and withdraw cards from non-UK residents. Spend while we can! I'm not sure that is 100 per cent accurate - at least 2/3 years ago, Barclays wrote to say they wouldn't issue a VISA card registered to a Greek address; they needed a UK addr...

Sciatica/bad back pain would likely prohibit the *kissing* movements - he reminded me of Boris Yeltsin. (Irony) Well done Pres Macron for holding him up, and Mrs Merkel for kissing him (phew - what a sad indictment of the world). Never mind, probably Pres Trump might eclipse the Junk person.
