Re: Property purchase costs involved ?

You've got me racking my brains now, Warwick. When I bought my house in 2008, I agreed the purchase price with the estate agent and made one single payment in that amount. I'm 99% sure I made no extra payments for anything after that. Of course I have no way of knowing how much of that payment was p...

Re: I smelled a rat, and I found a rat

Not very democratic, I would suggest. Tim I would suggest that not holding a confirmatory referendum is undemocratic in light of the lies told during campaigning, the electoral laws broken and use of what is known as dark money from unknown sources that funded the referendum. The fact that both sid...

Re: I smelled a rat, and I found a rat

Reluctant though I am to disagree with my friend Tim, there is nothing undemocratic about the Lib Dem policy, as it represents a return to the fundamental principle of Parliamentary democracy -- that no parliament can bind its successor. After this general election we will have had two since the re...

Re: I smelled a rat, and I found a rat

Why are they unelectable in the UK? Liberal Democrats . I think the clue's in the title, Toebs. As Warwick points out, even some Remainers are uncomfortable with a political party which has refused to accept the result of a nationwide democratic exercise and simply wants to cancel it without furthe...

- a person (no one in particular) could easily run out of alcoholic sustenance. And that would never do. Tim I think this time of year it's almost impossible to run out of alcoholic sustenance around Sitia . ... It is if the shops are all closed! Not to worry, will break out either the strat...

Re: Sitia Closed?

Thanks for your replies. A far more elegant explanation than the one I was considering which involved zombies. It's a shame it wasn't trailed more widely - a person (no one in particular) could easily run out of alcoholic sustenance. And that would never do.

Sitia Closed?

Does anybody know why Sitia is deserted? Everything is closed except the petrol stations (which is ironic as I've just wasted a gallon!). Have the good people of the town given themselves the day off, or is this widespread across Crete today? Doesn't seem to be a bank holiday.

Re: I smelled a rat, and I found a rat

My fear is that the Tories get a working majority and then push through a no-deal. You may well be right, Howard. However, to be fair, the HoC has had many opportunites to pass a deal and on every occasion has found one or more reasons to vote it down. If we end up after a General Election leaving ...

Re: I smelled a rat, and I found a rat

"'Betcha we don't leave.' I wrote that on the evening of 24 June 2016, once the euphoria had passed. A lot of us leavers, despite being elderly and thick, knew. The establishment wouldn't let it happen." I think we're as close to not leaving as we have been since June 2016. Although the E...

Re: TENT ONLY BASIC CAMPING SITE

Hi IanL

Is there really a market for a campsite without any basic sanitation? I'm a little surprised the authorities have allowed it given the public health context.

Not having a go - simply interested.

My father said something similar 45 years ago: 'Always assume every other driver on the road is an idiot'. Good advice, as it turned out he was right.
