Re: Wanted, Second hand car

You're welcome, mm. There is another car sales operation in Sitia - if you go down the road to the side of the municipal swimming pool, behind the hotels, (off the little dual-carriageway), there is a large motorbike shop on the right. They now also sell second-hand cars and have a selection in the ...

Re: Wanted, Second hand car

Hi mountain man I have bought two cars over the years from Vassilis Tsikrikonakis in Sitia and have always found him easy to deal with and honest. He speaks quite good English but now has his nephew Nikitas working for him who speaks perfect English. They source all their smaller cars now from Germa...

Re: The Will of the People

I agree with every word of your post altohb but, for me, it throws into sharp relief the main reason I voted to leave. Yes, parliament IS sovereign. And quite rightly. But the ever closer political union that membership of the EU represents risks ceding that sovereignty and I can't understand why re...

Re: The Will of the People

I wouldn't worry, Toebs. You have a pro-Remain Speaker who appears happy to abandon his neutrality whenever it suits him. It won't be allowed to happen.

Re: The Will of the People

Ideally we should hold a referendum every six months or so, just to make sure we're 'current'.

Re: Stop Press!

Regarding the new road, I think there is a safety issue that needs to be flagged up. I've no wish to teach my grandmother to suck eggs, however; if you head west from Sitia and for some reason decide to use the old road from Skopi, it is important that you rejoin the new road at the aforementioned C...

Not a fan of Boris, Mixos, so I'm in the clear for this particular crime. Unless it's a cunning double bluff of course .....

Re: Stop Press!

It's at the bottom of the slip road from Chamezi down on to the new road, Jeff. It didn't take the local graffiti artists long to spoil our lovely new road. Probably the first of many unfortunately.

Re: The Will of the People

It's rather lazy thinking to automatically categorise the Brexit party as right wing because its leader is Farage. I would have thought the reason for its apparent popularity is that it draws its support mainly from those who voted to leave in the referendum - which was not a right wing/left wing de...

Support for a no-deal Brexit hardens in the Sitia area as the former foreign secretary throws his hat in the ring for the forthcoming Greek elections!

Re: The Will of the People

Why would anyone vote for a party that can only look as far as delivering Brexit? Do they not want to know what the party would do when it is in power? Nobody's asking anyone to vote for anybody as far as I know Maud. There are no elections on the horizon. If a GE is called sometime in the future I...

Re: The Will of the People

I would expect remain/centrist Tory MPs to coalesce around Hunt as a compromise candidate then dump him at the last minute to prevent Johnson's name going forward. Gove and Raab to go forward to the Associations. Brexit farrago to then continue pretty much as before ...

I will no longer be able to work and live in the EU. Why not?

I will be restricted to the UK. Why will you?

Re: Mortgage Banks

Hi

The only bank in Crete I've had any dealings with is Eurobank. I've had two accounts with them for 11 years and have never had any problems. Friendly and efficient in my experience.

Re: Transferring funds, and pink slips

We are not tax resident here, and it is some years since our accountant asked anything about how much, or when we transferred from the UK. Bob. Hmmm strange, we are not tax resident here either, but our accountant always wants the `pinks' when he does our tax return. Yes, me too. There is a box on ...
