Important update for Zone Alarm users

Zone Alarm has been updated to deal with the Microsoft update that prevented Zone Alarm users accessing the internet yesterday. You will need to download the new version from the Zone Alarm website. Open the Zone Alarm control centre, click the 'product info' tab. Where it says 'support and update i...

I don't about any connection with the yahoo news item Daveg, but I had a similar problem trying to access the internet after installing Microsoft updates this morning, It turns out Microsoft update KB951748 caused a conflict with my firewall, ZoneAlarm. Once I removed the update I could connect again.

Thanks everyone. I've actually managed to get the 'other half' to look at the computer, and she also appreciates your comments.

Well Woman clinics

My 'other half' goes to one of those Well Woman clinics where she has various health checks, via the NHS. She says she is not due any more checks until next year. However since we hope to be living in Crete by then, she is considering paying privately for those checks, this year in the UK. I would h...

As far as properties are concerned, if you are thinking of buying, the declining value of the pound sterling against the euro does at first seem like bad news. But bear in mind that other buyers from the UK will be under the same pressure. If Brits have been the main buyers (and drivers of price inc...

Thank you all, very reassuring stuff. I'll consider the sat nav, although road map reading is one of my very few practical skills.

I was sorry to read about the attempt to burgle your home Nita. I know it can be very upsetting and that sometimes people find those feelings can last for quite a while. They do pass eventually though. These feelings are sometimes made worse because you cannot put a face to the person who tried to d...

Driving through ferry ports

Hello, A question for those of you who have driven to Crete via Italy and used the ferries. How straightforward was the drive around the port areas? I feel quite comfortable driving a long distance, but the thought of driving through Italian and Greek cities doesn't fill me with glee. The busiest Gr...

Strange that. I've been in the Ionian and Aegean seas from Lesbos to Lefkas, and everywhere other than Crete, I've been able to stand still in the water looking at the fish swimming around me without worrying about being nipped. Not that I'm aware of any reason why the fish may behave differently. P...

Thank you all for your comments. Plan A it is then. You make a good point about the parrot Jean, but parrots hate changes in their environment and routine. The less stressed the bird is during the move, the less stressed the other half will be, and the less stressed she is, the less stressed I will ...

Rentals again

Well we (my partner and I), have thought about it long enough. We have decided that out of the whole of Greece, Crete is the place to head for. It's time to actually put the wheels in motion and put our home up for sale. It goes on the market tomorrow. We want to move as soon as it is sold. This may...

Ferocious fish in Crete

Just thinking about a holiday I once had, staying in Almeirida. I remember that whenever I went into the sea I got nipped by fish if I stayed still too long. They couldn't have been very big fish, it sort of felt as if someone had plucked out two of the hairs from my leg in one go. The point is, in ...

Does this boil down to worries over nursing care? Will the UK still be better for this in years to come? It's only anecdotal, but I have heard more than one person with nursing experience say that Nurses (in the UK) don't want to actually nurse people any more. Even if you do have family in the UK, ...

I'm glad the link works. ( Wow, I've posted my first link ever! And it was easier than I thought.) The article on forest fires is about 15mins long. Although there are some fairly lengthy 'coming up shortly' bits early in the program which could perhaps be mistaken for the actual article. Freddie
