Re: I smelled a rat, and I found a rat

Toebs asks if anyone has seen scooby.

He's not the only gung-ho Brexiteer on this and other threads who's gone rather silent.

Perhaps staring into the abyss has rendered them speechless?

(That might goad one of them to respond!)

Re: Driving

Yes, Tim's right about the roundabout in Sitia which, after about six? years since it was built, can still be a frightening place for the unwary. Most of the locals have now learnt how to use it, but there are still a few old boys in pick-ups who drive on to it without looking left or reducing speed...

Re: UK Food in Supermarkets

Izal? Is that the paper we used to "play" by putting it next to a comb and humming...? No, that was Bronco I think. Happy days.

Re: UK Food in Supermarkets

Tim, although I've never been inside it myself, I should think you'd find of most of what's on your homesick shopping list at "The English Shop," on the Kritsa Road about 1km outside Agios Nikolaos. (Not sure about the industrial size loo rolls though.)

Re: Prorogation of Parliament - Petition

You are on the mark there, Tim. Talking of which, a certain "off Crete" poster has gone uncharacteristically quiet. Has he been blocked at last?

Re: Cats in Rethymno

Well they must have all migrated east, Guy, to our village and -- specifically -- our house. Mostly they are manky old toms, but they all have to eat and, as we are old softies who feed them, word must have gone out in the local cat population. If they can avoid the speeding pickups and the miserabl...

Re: The Far East

I remember you posting about your trip to Kato Zakros last summer, Guy, and how much you said you enjoyed the area. Those of us who live in "the far east", either full or part time, are very happy with the slower pace of life, emptier roads and comparative lack of tourists. Yes it's a fair...

Re: Gramvousa and Balos by boat

Sounds like the same trip that we did as a family about 25 years ago, Guy. Is it the place with the shipwreck just offshore? There was quite a heavy swell on the sea coming back from Gramvousa and my better half took some seasick pills called Vertigo Vomex (doesn't leave much to the imagination does...

Re: Pound - Euro fx rate

Scooby, no doubt you will tell me to mind my own business, but don't you think you should amend your location, now that you are back in the UK, as Warwick pointed out? I do believe that if forum members gave an accurate up-to-date location (and those who don't give one should add it) then we would a...

Re: ParcelDelivery from U.K.

I brought out a free standing gas stove on easyJet (minus the gas canister of course) as hold baggage, without any problem. It was well wrapped up and I'd brought along some photographs in case they were suspicious of the metal bomb-shaped object I was checking in! You shouldn't have any problem wit...

Re: House insurance

Steve, if you are still looking, you could get a quote from Stavros at insurance-greece.com He often posts on this forum and I have found his policies (car and house) very competitive compared with UK insurers. Whatever company you choose, the policy will come with a hefty excess for earthquake cove...

Re: Cosmote internet router problem

Well it appears you were correct, Warwick, and I might have to eat my words about it being a systemic fault. The Cosmote engineer duly arrived last Tuesday and after a bit of head scratching did two things: 1, fitted a new filter on our upstairs phone and 2. Moved the existing filter on the downstai...

Re: Cosmote internet router problem

Just by way of an update on my original posts back in April ... I, too, am still having problems despite several calls to Cosmote. The internet "drop out" is still occurring at random times, sometimes in the middle of a phone call -- so the call is cut off -- sometimes just after a call wh...

Re: The Will of the People

Funny how this thread gets completely manic for a few days at a time, then the exchanges stop dead -- like a couple of punch-drunk boxers collapsed exhausted in the corners of the ring. Or maybe it's just too hot to bother repeating the same tired old arguments and a nice cold beer in a beach tavern...
