Yes, quite a lively one wasn't it? I trust it didn't spill your beer, Tim.

Re: ENFIA 2020

According to "Keep Talking Greece," ENFIA bills will not now be posted until 20th September, because the government has decided to exempt 26 smaller Greek islands from paying any property tax this year, so the rates are having to be recalculated -- upwards, presumably, to compensate for th...

Re: Flying Crete - UK

Chrissyg, I think the comment posted by ros21m is outrageous and unforgiveable. I have been reading this thread with interest and it was perfectly civilised until this person added her?/his? pennyworth. I note that the time of the posting might provide a clue to the intemperate language. I also note...

Re: Vehicle Testing

I confirm what altohb says, Tim, as I had to do the IKTEO and emissions test together last year. Definitely get Iannis to call and book Patronakis. They were quite busy last year and that was pre-Covid, so you don't want a wasted journey.

Re: Passenger Locator Form

We faced a similar conundrum when we first came to Crete, Bluebird. Our house had three different numbers stencilled in various places on the wall by the front door. Nobody could tell us the correct one. We decided to chip off the old render anyway, to restore the stonework, so we were left with no ...

Welcome ? Really ? Judging by the tone of recent posts on here I thought most of you guys don't want your fellow Brits flying in !

Re: Any rebates available?

Don't go just yet, jackdaw. Who would they criticise if you were not here? In any case, you don't ask someone else to fetch your coat. According to Mark Williams on the Fast Show, it was always "I'll get my coat..."

Re: Bank security codes

As it happens, I've just topped up my Vodafone Greece credit online from the UK. I did it with the Greek mobile switched on, so the One Time Password (actually six numbers) came immediately by text from Eurobank and it all went without a hitch as usual. The bank only has my 10-digit Greek mobile num...

Re: Bank security codes

This seems odd to me, Glenn, as I am in the UK at the moment and I did receive a bank security code on my Greek mobile when I had to pay my car insurance. I'm with Eurobank not Piraeus, but I think the security code generation is the same set up. Is she certain that her Greek mobile will not receive...

Re: Any rebates available?

I've never met jackdaw but, like john4d, I think the replies to his post were a little strong. I would go further and say the reactions were overblown and unpleasantly holier-than-thou. Jackdaw asked a perfectly reasonable question and a simple "No chance!" would have sufficed. All of us w...

Re: Let's alter history

Why is this thread even on here? It has nothing to do with Living in Crete. There are plenty of "echo chambers" on social media where people can express their opinions to their hearts' content. Carol has ticked us off in the past for straying off message. I'm not saying the topic isn't imp...

Re: DEH Electric bill

I faced exactly the same situation, woody. The problem does indeed lie with DEH's database, which has a copy of my previous passport. However, although I DO know the number of my expired passport, I'm not sure it would be wise to set up an online account using the old numbers -- even if their databa...

Re: The Lotus Eaters

Can't speak for Elounda, Forsto, as we didn't venture that far along the coast, but Malia beach 45 years ago was a glorious sandy strand with about three modest hotels at the back and the town itself was little more than a fishing village. Most of the island could have doubled as an idyllic film set...

Re: UK N.I. NO's

My account has written saying "In particular for this financial year the tax resident abroad is obliged to confirm the country of his tax residence.." etc, with a short form asking for a declaration of your country of tax residence, the address in that country and the "tax registratio...
