Re: Coronavirus, what happens next

Zager and Evans --- "In The Year 2525" (from 1968 .. as some of us can remember!) Hope it's not prophetic.

Re: UK FCO Advises Against ALL non essential travel

Indeed, Tim, and if people do transfer flights now, it's a cheeky way for airlines to maintain some working capital. Example: return flights we booked six months ago for April for £140 each (and have now obviously lost) are being offered for over £400 each in May. As our American cousins might say: ...

Re: UK FCO Advises Against ALL non essential travel

Good question Andrew. If the official FCO advice is not to travel, then surely the airlines should now be offering full refunds, as opposed to simply re-booking without a fee?

Re: Withdrawal Agreement & our Rights - What's covered?

Rick, I'm not sure that 'part timers' or 'in betweeners' (and that includes me) will even be allowed to obtain biometric residence cards (which imply an application for full-time residence) as we will effectively become third country nationals subject to the 90 days in 180 rule, even if we own prope...

Re: New Airport at Kastelli

Interesting that the "impression of Kastelli Airport" in the link shows what appears to be deep blue sea just the other side of the runway. Have they got confused with the existing Heraklion airport perhaps? A bit naughty really, seeing as Kastelli is several kilometres inland.

Re: Crete Documentary

I thought it was a bit disappointing and an opportunity missed. Apart from anything else, it fell victim to the current vogue for lots of walking pieces to camera by the presenter, when we just want to see the scenery. The second episode, on Corfu, followed the same basic pattern and once again used...

Re: Earthquake

I think that might be a little fanciful, as there have been two other earthquakes -- one north of Sitia and another out beyond Rhodes -- in the same period, and there's no oil drilling going on there. There have been numerous tremors all around the "Hellenic Arc" recently so I would imagin...

Re: Rats!

Mothballs certainly do the trick, as Warwick says, if you can put up with the smell, although we only get the occasional waft to remind us they are there. Halkiadakis supermarket sells them in packs, with the mothballs in plastic tubes with holes in them to let the odour out, but sealed so that you ...

Re: Earthquake

Ironic that you should ask that question, because I have just had a house insurance application to a Greek company turned down because of the age of the property (about 80 years.) So I will stick with the UK-based company which does include earthquake cover, albeit at a higher price and a fairly hef...

Re: What`s the best way to get rid of Oleander?

I might recommend this to my neighbour as a slightly more eco-friendly way of disposing of his pickup engine oil which, at the moment, he just tips into the storm drain.
