Re: Driving licences

I am not sure if it has been mentioned but the deadline is now extended to the end of the year: If you are a UK national, beneficiary of the Withdrawal Agreement, resident in Greece, holder of a UK driving licence or a CPC driver qualification card, you can continue using your driving licence or CPC...

Re: Book recommendation

I agree, I think this is the case with most history books, you must study both sides in order to come to a safe unbiased conclusion. Alexander was a great hero and leader for the Greeks, while if you ask the Persians for example he was an unwelcome savage ruler who forced women and children into sla...

Re: Book recommendation

Thank you Tim, that seems like a good recommendation.

Even though I love technology when it comes to books I still prefer the paper versions :)

Book recommendation

Hello friends, I wanted an opinion about a book and thought that here is great place to ask. I am looking at reading about the history of the British Empire, nothing analytical or philosophical, just general facts. I've found this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Empire-Demise-British-Lessons-Global/dp...

Re: Biometric ID Card Application - Sitia

Just in case anyone in the Sitia area who has decided to apply for residence doesn't already know this, the application needs to be made at Agios Nikolaos police station, not Sitia. You will need to make an appointment. The telephone number of the Ag Nik nick is 28410 91417. I have an appointment f...

Re: New uk guidance Medical insurance needed for WA

With the help of ''Straycat_67'' and after his experience we have managed to find a low cost policy which meets the 100% criteria. As I do not want to advertise any businesses here, whoever needs more info can fill in the details in the link below and I will get back with an exact proposal: https://...

Re: New uk guidance Medical insurance needed for WA

I agree with all of the above and it is even pointed out in the attached link that a 20% excess is satisfactory - https://www.taxheaven.gr/circulars/19814/k-y-a-ariom-oik-53821-2014-21-10-2014?fbclid=IwAR1xtqvlkPgPo246YFNAlL3fiV-5VGC_YrmOnOi-dRI5-HD9h8b0RJepCE4 Fortunately I have been in touch with...

Re: New uk guidance Medical insurance needed for WA

I just had a telephone conversation with one of the offices in Athens, the guideline that they have is ''Full medical cover''. The officer stated that in his mind, he interprets this as 100% cover in pubic hospitals EVEN IF the coverage amount is small, e.g. 10 t0 15.000 Euros per year.

Re: New uk guidance Medical insurance needed for WA

As it is often the case with public services in Greece, it seems that each officer assesses the requirements differently, although there is no official amendment in the requirements. I would STRONGLY suggest contacting the station or residence office BEFORE applying and receiving the exact requireme...

Re: Residency

I'm interested in if/how expats are obtaining private health cover to satisfy the requirements of their new biometric permits. We currently spend just under 6 months a year in Crete, and would have no problem making that just over 6 months. We are tax-resident in the UK. We obtained our beige resid...

A lot of people don't realise that this type of footwear was named after its French inventor. A Monsieur Philippe Phlopp.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has issued a new Directive regarding towing and trailers which affects all passengers with private and commercial vehicles. All trailers will be considered to be separate vehicles from now on, and will...

Coronavirus and travel insurance

As many people will probably join a travel insurance plan when they plan to travel I though to point out how insurance companies will handle a claim in the case of the now famous Coronavirus. The terms and condition of each plan is the analytical guide in which exemptions are outlined. Many Travel i...
