Re: Sat Navs

Having worked in breakdown and recovery for about 14 years I bought one as I thought it would be constantly used, but found I only ever used it if I was going somewhere I'd never been or heard of. Maybe it's an age thing but a good map and a bit of common sense works every time. Naturally I exclude ...

Re: Photos (a few more)

The road from Aradena down to Phoenix via Livaniana is a trifle more fear inducing as it is still basically a goat track used mainly by the few hill walkers who holiday down there. I hope they never upgrade the road as it adds to the rural feel although I dare say the locals would disagree.

Re: Crete driving is appalling !

Sorry for the slight digression but I remember a conversation with my Greek teacher a few years ago where I asked if this meant τρω σκατα and she said no, it's a gesture used when a mistake is made, and many people even do it to themselves upon making an error. Is it so, or was she talking the afore...

Re: Crete driving is appalling !

The middle east is certainly the worst place for lunatic drivers, although it is my belief this is due to their lifestyle, tethered by their religion. Young men can't go to pubs, clubs, theatres etc, have no contact with the opposite sex and are left with their car as their main outsource of testost...

Re: Browser problem

Can you run the program if you use the safe start with networking option from the boot menu? If so, it might help to narrow down the options. Are there different programs on the two computers as this might also help in identifying the cause.

Re: Antivirus Software

Nobody really bothered much about writing viruses for the mac os due to the limited number of users and market share. As this has increased then the threat increases with it. Mac systems are coming under more attacks as time goes on and the worry is that this trend will continue. I do not run anti v...

Re: Antivirus Software

He's right you know, there were only the 5000 new viruses written specifically for Mac last year - what could possibly go wrong?

conversation exchange

Not sure if this is on the go in Greece but it might be worth a try. Basically it's run with the idea that you help someone learn your native language and they help you leaarn theirs. Not too many Greeks learning English here but you might be more fruitful over there. http://www.conversationexchange...

Re: Olive Harvest

Whilst touring round parts of the island in October I couldn't help but notice a superior amount of larger olives in the Kato Zakros area compared to round about Sissi, where we were based. I have no idea if this is normal or not, but I would have thought trees in the roughly same geographical locat...

Re: Greek football fixtures

ΟΦΗ have 2 home games in October and would seem to be: Sun 2 October v Kalloni Sun 9 October v Panelefsiniakos My understanding is that Gate 4 is the place to be, so I think we should have a meeting of all the people from LIC. It's a sterling idea when you think about it - get to put a face to all t...

swimming in January?

Victoria Hislop was just doing an interview about her new book which would seem to be a series of stories set in Greece. At one stage when talking about the weather she mentioned that every January the weather will be good enough during a period of 10 to 12 days when you can get a tan and people wil...
