Re: Still in Limbo

You are quite correct Carol, NI is paid to fund State Benefits and pensions, but it is still a tax! The point I was trying to make was that if pensioners were not contributing to a financial system, and if the U.K. doesn’t gets its act together and come to an agreement re health etc with other EU co...

Re: Still in Limbo

I agree Warwick. I wasn’t trying to ‘link’ the comment about the paying of taxes. - We ALL need a good accountant wherever we live! I understand your comment bobscott, and know about the double taxation system. - It is farcical in many cases. In fact it emphasises the point I was trying to make on h...

Re: Still in Limbo

I am aware that many pensioners pay tax in Greece Altohb, so please don’t take anything personally, it is just that there has been a number of threads on here over the years about getting a ‘good accountant’ and not paying tax in Greece! People like yourself have seen the reason to pay it where you ...

Re: Still in Limbo

As you can see from Carol’s post Mixos, things are still not settled......and certainly signed off! The EU will not accept TM’s word for anything just now. They already feel she had agreed to the ‘back stop’ and has now changed her mind, - due to pressure at home. Carol’s thread above shows that eve...

Re: Driving from Venice to Belgium

As long as their passports are up to date Ann you don’t need anything else. We have always done the Patras to Ancona or Bari routes, so I don’t know about the Venice one. Are you planning on having a dog friendly cabin? You might want to check if there are any available, as they get booked up quite ...

Re: Why Brexit is Right

That is very interesting Carol. - Thank you. I would also have thought your friend would qualify, seeing as she is married to a Greek. Have things changed again very recently? I know everything went ‘on hold’ for a while a few years ago. Like Phil, I would also be interested to know what level of pr...

Re: Why Brexit is Right

I think you are correct as well Warwick. Interestingly, friends of ours, who have two properties in Greece, but live in the U.K. for six months of the year have a son and daughter in their 30’s. The friends only spent six months of the year out there, and that has been since they have retired. Prior...

Re: Why Brexit is Right

Well said Warwick and Jeff.

No BST, you are correct, I am sure it isn’t as easy as buying a property for 250,000 or having Greek citizenship! There is possibly a minefield out there to negotiate, and it doesn’t look good just now.

Re: Why Brexit is Right

I agree with you whole heartedly BST. In answer to your question Kamisiana, if I was going to dive off a cliff I would rather know what was waiting for me at the bottom! - I see that as common sense! Better the devil I know! To keep to Carolina’s reason for allowing this thread which should not be a...

Re: Why Brexit is Right

See my post earlier BST. I posed the question, but not one single person has answered it yet! Nobody has admitted to voting for Brexit and said they will move back to the U.K. when it happens. I still believe that if these people are not intending to do this, they should not have voted for something...

Re: Why Brexit is Right

It is about much more than electrical goods. There are so many other things that affect our health and safety which EU regulations protect us from. - Chlorinated chicken from our good friend Donald, and nice Japanese prawns filled with too many antibiotics for me please! At least when I buy somethin...

Re: Taking care of Molly

What a sad sorry Graeme. We are also animal lovers, and understand your sorrow. It is excellent news about Molly and your house sitter Peter. I have been following the thread like Graeme. You can now enjoy your trip to the U.K. knowing Molly will be happily waiting for you when you get home! She is ...

Re: Dog Poisoning

I remember the rough cafe Warwick. There also used to be an old caravan parked behind the beach towards the eastern end which sold toasted sandwiches. For some years our children were friendly with a group of local young Greeks. They all used to play volleyball on the beach every afternoon. One of t...
