Re: The Will of the People

Spot on Bob. - Keep it simple. With your suggestion people who want Brexit can vote leave. People who wanted to remain last time round, and people who now know what the consequences of leaving will be can vote to keep the status quo. There will always be people all over the world that are unhappy wi...

Re: Eastern Crete

TWO good reasons why people cannot afford to eat out so often then. - I am sure there are more!

Re: Eastern Crete

As I said Phil.....mass tourism, especially in the form of large hotels, changes the character of an area! Our Greek friends say the same as the people you know. They used to eat out weekly but now it is monthly....if they are lucky! Mind you, that is also due to reductions in their pensions, as wel...

Re: Eastern Crete

I feel you have lost the original reason for my post here Kilkis. If you read my comment at the top of this page, (sorry, I am not good at copying anything in!), I mentioned that Kolymbari is still a nice place to live, - despite the large hotel! I accept that places change over time, and I do not n...

Re: Eastern Crete

The population of Greece is starting to decline Peebee. http://www.ekathimerini.com/233090/article/ekathimerini/news/greeces-population-shrinking-aging As for Kolymbari being a fishing village Kilkis, it certainly was....plus a gateway to the Rodopos. We’ve sat in our friend’s parents house.....wher...

Re: Eastern Crete

My guess is Kilkis that often a large hotel can change the character of a village. Kolymbari used to be a quiet fishing village.....like Elounda! We stayed in Hotel Dimitra there many years ago. I think it has eight rooms! We liked the village so much we found an apartment to rent and stayed another...

Re: Eastern Crete

Sadly poisoning and beating does happen, but things are improving. It is also true that not all Cretans treat their dogs badly. Our friends have ‘working dogs’ for the sheep, but although they live outdoors, they are treated well......and are every bit as well looked after as ‘working dogs’ in the U...

Re: Eastern Crete

It was the mid 1970’s before Chania Airport, (Daskalogiannis), opens to international flights Amanda, - and there were very few of them! In fact it only opened to commercial flights of any sort a few years prior to that. When we first flew to Crete in 1979 Iraklio Airport was the only one with fligh...

Re: Eastern Crete

I have not been to sissy for some years, and then we only stopped for a few hours. Friends stayed there for three day’s last Summer and enjoyed it, but felt it was too close to Iraklio to live. (It is all about choices). Guy is correct, the far West of the island is beautiful. We like Sitia as it ha...

Re: The Will of the People

As I said earlier, there are a number of reasons Dyson has chosen Singapore for his new production unit. Maybe Brexit had nothing to do with it, but if it had been financially beneficial to manufacture in the U.K. it would have happened. In fairness, Dyson kept his staff fully informed of his decisi...

Re: The Will of the People

Nice comment Bob.....and true of course. If you read my post carefully Scooby I mention that James Dyson has put commercial interests first. The point I was making was that his choice of Singapore was multi-faceted, but Brexit must have played a part in it. I am sure many business people, Remainers ...

Re: The Will of the People

Dyson looked at a number of countries before deciding where to take the electric car production.....including EU ones like Croatia. His decision to choose Singapore has been based purely on financial incentives, - which is understandable, as he is a business man. He waited to see what incentives wer...

Re: The Will of the People

A ‘tongue in cheek statement’ re the DfT from you there then Warwick! As you said, as for the £900,000......... This is all the same ‘camp’ as James Dyson and Jacob Rees Mogg! They move their own businesses abroad, yet claim to want Brexit for the benefit of the U.K. - It is going to be ‘the man in ...
