Re: The Will of the People

What have we learned from this ‘will of the people’? After over 2 years, it’s may be worth thinking about. Not the obvious generalities - politicians are clueless, leaving the EU is more complicated than you think etc, but on a personal level. I rely on other people even less now than I did in 2016,...

Re: The Will of the People

..... Interesting watching a correspondent in the street asking three students what they thought about Brexit, the main thing they were virtually crying about and saying was "but we want to travel the world" they don't seem to understand that no one is going to stop them. Well, people wil...

Re: The Will of the People

Another case of ‘kicking the van down the track’ today! This is getting very scary now. As for another tunnel Scooby, the problem isn’t getting the goods/lorries across the Channel, it is checking them at customs! People seem to have lost the focus completely......including T May! It doesn’t matter...

Re: Great Overland Trip to the UK

Interesting. We’ve been thinking about this for several years - bit of a challenge with young daughters and school holidays. How good a car do you need? How many places did you book in advance? Any visa problems ? - may have to do it before full Brexit.

Re: The Will of the People

Perhaps the real effect of Brexit is that it has exposed to more people how inadequate our politicians are - from all sides they don’t appear to have much of a clue. At school, teachers keep order with a bit of a confidence trick: 30 children could easily overrun one adult, but normally they don’t, ...

Re: The Will of the People

Like I say, they will be unfailingly polite, civilised but totally unbending. So here’s the choice: the EU’s way of behaving or the ways of the US, Russia or China. The other three may be unbending but there is definitely no guarantee they will be unfailingly polite or civilised. If there are four b...

Re: The Will of the People

Oh the EU are desperate for a 2nd referendum and would agree to anything to get that. Throughout this process, the EU has constantly been underestimated and misunderstood. The EU were going to be easy to negotiate with (David Davies didn’t need to prepare - he just turned up at the first meeting wi...

Re: Thinking of starting a security /property maintenance business.

I concur with the comments here. Firstly, in terms of competition- we work with an Albanian, ex army special forces, lived locally for ten years, knows the village, the typical house problems, where to buy plumbing, gardening, building spares, very strong, runs around the roof without fear, is relia...

Re: The Will of the People

Good grief, is Dr Who on a Sunday. No wonder I always miss it. I've been looking for it on a Thursday with Top-of-The-Pops. Thanks for the heads-up Guy. Any idea who they replaced Patrick Troughton with? I never thought he was really right for the part after William Hartnell. Warwick You can get pe...

Re: The Will of the People

Two thoughts on the tv debate point: 1.The people this is aimed at are TMay’s fellow Conservative MPs. Two days before they decide, she is reminding them of what may happen if they vote against the Withdrawal Agreement I.e. JCorbyn. 2. TMay says the public is bored of Brexit, Scheduling a debate bet...

Re: The Will of the People

.Looking on the bright side they might introduce a UK Only lane at Gatwick, and other UK airports, either as part of a three lane system, i.e. UK Only, EU Only and Other, or a two lane system, i.e. UK Only and Other, so we might get processed a bit quicker going in that direction. Warwick That made...

Re: The Will of the People

Today is quite a sad day: the agreement to leave is signed, so Brits will presumably go in a different queue from EU nationals at immigration in Crete. A real pain for me, as my wife and daughters got Irish passports (through my father-in-law) and i’m Stuck with a not so useful British one. They are...
