Re: Selling and how to get the funds to the UK?

A correction to my earlier posting on the subject. The buyer chose to pay the settlement figure from his National Bank of Greece account, not directly to me from the Netherlands. Despite the capital controls which are shown under information freely available from NBG, the final payment, well in exce...

Re: House insurance

I was with Intasure for the first few years I had my house, the premiums rose annually and I always managed to haggle them down a little. I switched to John Paterakis at Insuranceline in Rethymnon for my last few years. The policies for my house ,which included pool and earthquake cover, and car were...

Re: Selling and how to get the funds to the UK?

No flouting of Greek financial laws as far as my and the buyers lawyers were concerned. I have provided copy bank statements for both accounts to prove receipt, this was a condition written into the contract. Nomad too did well for me. I shipped six boxes, including a large Cretan pot with them. All...

Re: Selling and how to get the funds to the UK?

Well, my sale has all gone through and the house was finally sold with no problems other than the usual disorganised Greek methods with regard to communication and appointments! I had to delay my flight due to last minute running around dealing with Greek bureaucracy. My buyer was not happy with tha...

Re: Transferring funds, and pink slips

I have to download the transfer document for each transaction as I transfer funds UK to Greece, (via Germany) with TransferWise. On handing them over to Eurobank I get the pink slips with no problem.

Re: Day trip to Santorini

Seajets do a day return from Rethymnon twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The first one left yesterday at 08.00 hrs, (I heard it as it went out) returns at around 20.00hrs. cost last season was 150€ per passenger, expensive but it does include an excursion which may be optional and also a long ...

Re: Transferring funds, and pink slips

I too have always obtained 'pink slips'(one sheet on white paper) from my bank who now also require the a copy of the TransferWise transaction document(s) before they will issue it, to enable my accountant to complete my tax returns. Knowing the way the regulations change here I have also continued ...

Re: Green

Take a look at the postings on You Tube. There are some horrendous sights on the National Highway and with bridges collapsing left right and centre. Devastation all round the local demos is still trying to sort road access and bridge collapses out. Look under Flooding In Rethymnon 2019 for a good se...

Re: Selling and how to get the funds to the UK?

Rather than transfer the funds into Greece the buyers transferred the funds directly from their bank in another EU country directly to the seller's bank in the UK. I don't know the details but I think a certain amount was transferred into Greece, e.g. the deposit, but that was mostly used to pay fe...

Re: buying stuff for house rebuild

In Rethymnon area there is Complete Stores just outside Tsesmes on the Adele road, who stock cabling and electronic fittings as well as plumbing equipment and bulk building materials. Delivery no problem. For doors/frames made to order I would suggest Christoforakis who are a wood working joinery fi...

Re: rent or buy?

CGT in Greece is still under suspension at present. If it were still in existence I would have been able to offset it after payment against any UK liability. The rates quoted when it was first introduced were more favourable than those in UK which would have been useful!

Re: rent or buy?

That's a good point Warwick! One I had not considered, however, I don't think the Revenue will look at it in the same light though I will certainly look into it. At the time I made the final and largest payment for the house the rate was 1.50€ to the pound. Needless to say I am watching the fluctuat...
