Re: Heraklion Airport

As far as I am aware there was no change in arrivals when I came out in May and my sister who came over two weeks ago never mentioned any problems. Her luggage arrived quicker than expected! On her return last week a she was pleasantly surprised in departures. After a quick check in with Thomas Cook...

Just wondering...

Just wondering if anyone else out there has an Indesit tumble dryer. There was a safety recall on some of their models two years ago which received extensive publicity in UK. They were liable to catch fire! If you own one it may be worth checking up. I am not sure but some Hotpoint models may also b...

Re: Sands Across the Sea

Sounds delightful Clio! Time to get the brush out! I expect everywhere outside is, by now, well coated in rusty orange sand. Glad I got away safely yesterday for my flight to Athens in the morning. I saw the winds were forecast to return late afternoon and was worried they may arrive early an...

Re: More Questions from the newbies

Curious to know why you had to pay for a post box Mackie. Getting mine was a big surprise at the time. I had called in at the main post office in Rethymnon and was told to speak to a man called Lefteris, upstairs. I explained where I lived and said I would be happy with a post box anywhere close by....

Re: Wasps still around

Worst year ever where I am, my neighbours and I lost count of the number of nests we had to get rid of in shrubs and trees. My gardener got badly stung on his arms whilst cutting back Bougainvillea in August prior to the arrival of my young nephews on holiday. (They have a pathological fear of anyth...

Re: Mesh cover for pool closing...

I have a made to measure pool cover brought out from UK when I bought my house. It is made from a close PVC mesh with webbing strapping tensioned into stainless steel loops to secure it. I was advised to leave the pool filled so the cover touched the surface of the water when it was installed. Sugge...

Re: Key ring torch

The one Euro shops here in Rethymnon usually stock them, I assume there will be one at least in Chania. I have one on most of my sets of keys...very handy on a dark night!

Re: Central heating in winter?

Does anyone know any installers near Rethymno, Arkadi side? Thanks Steve Have you enquired at Rethymno Gas, Misiria as you drive into Rethymnon on the beach road. Friends of mine had it installed, not sure who by, but they were happy with it. If they can not do it I am sure they will point you in t...

Re: Renting AirBnb? Finance Ministry is looking for you..

Friends are renting a village house under the new simplified system. They are restricted to maximum of 90days summer letting, through Air BnB and other sites, which they have to declare and pay 15% tax. Long term winter rental - 5 months - also has to be declared for tax purposes.

Re: Top up mobile phones from bank account?

I forgot to top up my Vodaphone account end of 2015, which I think was when they changed to three months retention. I lost the few Euros credit I had but not my number. As a result I registered for my account online. I tend to keep a minimum on balance, but get 400 mins free to Greek numbers and loa...

Re: Top up mobile phones from bank account?

I have a pay as you go account with VodaphoneGR. I am registered on line and can top up from UK as I wish. Usually just put the minimum 5€ on to keep things going in between visits over the winter.

Re: postal service

Have to say I was impressed by the postal service whilst I was out earlier this year. Having ordered items from UK online, I suddenly realised I had transposed my post box number. I was told by the company the items had been despatched and it was too late to amend the address. I resigned myself to d...

Re: Wrought iron gates

Hi Chrissy, the engineer actually had the brochure when we met him. I only told him the bits I wanted to use in the gate with a rough sketch and he took it from there. It is made of steel, about 3.25 mts long and 1.75 mts high. Lightweight solid panels in the lower area with 15mm square 'arrows' goi...
