Re: Diesel cars

There's nothing in my Greek registration document to say where I can/can't take the diesel car, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the ban in Athens was lifted in 2012. The only problem I have found in Greece is that you have to watch closely that they fill up with diesel, until they know...

Re: Transferring proceeds of villa sale

Just to confirm that we have now completed the sale of a property in Crete, the payment was transferred direct from a Dutch bank account to a UK bank account, and agreed by the Lawyer, Notary and Tax Authority.

Re: Transferring proceeds of villa sale

As I mentioned earlier, I am selling a property but things were on hold due to the buyer being unable to open a Greek bank account. It has now been confirmed that it is ok to transfer funds direct from the buyers Dutch account to my UK account. In fact I now know of over 10 similar sales taking plac...

Re: Transferring proceeds of villa sale

I am in the process of selling a property - deposit received and waiting for the banks to allow international transfers. One of the two lawyers involved has stated that transfers from non-Greek bank to non-Greek bank can only happen if the buyer is earning a salary in Greece. This has been questione...

Thanks in advance

I asked OTE in November last year if they had an equivalent of the free 1471 service that tells you the last number that called, but they didn't have one then.

Re: Buying a car in the UK

Regarding the No Claim Bonus, I bought a car in the UK 2 years ago, and was dreading the amount I would have to pay. After the question "how many years NCB do you have?" to which the answer was 0, comes the question "have you had any accidents or convictions" to which the answer ...

Most of the big Hawk Moths found on Crete are Oleander Hawk Moths.

We regularly find the big green caterpillars chomping on Oleander

They have been used in most streets in Rethymno for at least two years. Yes they are to stop cars parking on the pavement, but even parking correctly they are a pain, trying to get your car door lined up with a space. Popular opinion in the area suggested that the local Mayor has shares in the concr...

Nobody has mentioned the new Ravenna route - perhaps that would be a quieter town to get through? It also means a few less miles to drive through Italy (which is why we used to get Minoan to Venice). As Moggieman says, the road to the port skirts around the town at Ancona. However recently we were o...

We have travelled these routes quite a few times. ANEK have kennels on board, no pets in cabins. Minoan have kennels and also allow pets in some cabins. Venice. The authorities have banned ferries from Venice, so Minoan now travel from Trieste, via either Ravenna or Ancona. ANEK advertise the Venice...

Re: speed cameras

The photograph of the face suggests that the camera takes a picture of the oncoming vehicle, that answers the question , it is the camera facing the traffic not after it has passed the camera which takes only the registration number. As mentioned earlier, the photo taken in Greece is of the rear of...

Just out of interest, has anybody received or heard of anybody receiving a speeding ticket based on one of the cameras? Or are "they" just getting the system up and running and waiting until the end of the main tourist season before starting to use it in earnest and issue tickets? Yes, my...
