Re: Biometric permits

A "special residence permit" looks really interesting, but I have only seen it mentioned in the Ekathimerini article. Fingers crossed!

Re: Requirements for part-time residents in Crete

"Reverting back to the issue of “part timers” who wish to remain tax resident in the U.K. and continue to spend, say, 6 months a year at their 2nd home in Greece, although inconvenient, is the prospect of 2 three month stays that bad - say, mid Feb to mid May and mid Aug to mid Nov ?" Well...

Re: Requirements for part-time residents in Crete

This has been a very interesting thread, as we are in the same situation of being in Crete for 5-6 months in total for the past several years, travelling out each half-term and school holiday plus a few days at each end of these. We have beige residents' permits. We've had our house for 14 years and...

Re: prescriptions

Slightly off-topic now but I wonder if you spoke with a person at your surgery who confused it with the shingles jab? For some reason which was explained to me once but I have since forgotten, that is age-staged on the NHS. See https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/who-can-have-the-shingles-vac...

Re: prescriptions

Interesting. We are 75 and 72. We have both had pneumonia jabs on the NHS because of our age. The NHS information at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/pneumococcal-vaccination/ is interesting, including in respect of what it does not say! We wonder whether we should ask for the "other&...

Re: Wanted - Pair of elbow crutches

I'm glad you found those shops - they are really good, and will quickly get things in for you.

I had my op in Sussex early last year. Now I scarcely know that I have a new hip - I'm very pleased.

Re: Wanted - Pair of elbow crutches

I have one in Crete and one in England, so no use to you!

There are two or three orthopedic suppliers in Mournies near to the hospital. They were all very helpful after I had my hip replacement, and not expensive. I'm sure you would find some there.

Re: Police station open on Ochi day

I very much doubt it. Even if there is some sort of skeleton service operating, I would lay money on it not including the man who deals with the permits.

Re: PLF with Greece?

The form is quite specific about where you started your journey from and where you pass through.

Returning via Athens you should have enough time (it has to be less than 48 hours) to fill it in before leaving Crete.

Re: Level 1 for Chania. Level 3 Herakleion New guidelines

"Can someone explain why 6 at a Taverna Table is safe and 7 or more is not??" Actually probably even 6 is not "safe", but it's a reasonable compromise. Same as for lots of rules. There has to be a cut-off point to stop large groups. If they had said 8 was permitted, people would ...

Re: Residency

Thanks for these replies.
We had to have AMKA numbers for our beige permits, so we have these.
Of course Boris and his current games worry us!

Re: Residency

I'm interested in if/how expats are obtaining private health cover to satisfy the requirements of their new biometric permits. We currently spend just under 6 months a year in Crete, and would have no problem making that just over 6 months. We are tax-resident in the UK. We obtained our beige reside...

Re: UK car to Crete Import cost?

The implication was that it was in all cases - but I don't know.
We were not planning to use an exemption certificate.

Re: UK car to Crete Import cost?

I agree with the advice given in this thread, particularly to sort it out first. We originally planned to import a car this spring, and had several (personal and emailed) conversations with the lady who deals with this in the port of Souda. She is called Erika (?spelling), and is on ekt_cha@otenet.g...
