Guy is not a GP, he is a neurologist. At least two practitioners speak some English at the Health Centre - we use a lady doctor called Nikolokaki, who works on the ground floor at the end of the corridor.

We residents of Kastelli Kissamos yearn for even Chania petrol prices. We have been paying 1.79 a litre for months now.

Wow, lucky you! In Kastelli Kissamos now it is a nightmare. The very unhelpful man who deals with residence permits invents new problems and insists on extra paperwork every time you go. It takes an average of five visits before you get your card. AND he insists on having every piece of paper that i...

The woman who called in our village also had a map. She was a bit sniffy when I said we recycled 'only' about 20%, with a compost bin and cardboard etc to the local bin. Luckily for the environment, the Greek couple across the road could answer 100%, as they just throw everything down the bank.

I don't know about the rest of the national highway, but certainly the section west of Chania has a black pipe watering system to most of its planting! Having said that, you are quite safe not watering your oleanders if they have been in the ground five years. They only need watering the first two s...

Oh goody - I thought it was just me who thought he was an egotistical pompous idiot wasting his time doing something pointless! We went to a talk by him back in the UK about seven/eight years ago, just after the book came out, and I asked him afterwards if he flew the plane at Maleme airfield. He wo...

I know it's anal, but I have started to keep a weather record. For the last three years we have had red rain on 31st March. Sounds like a pattern to me!

Sound like sheftalias to me. Extremely popular in Cyprus and quite unusual to find them here. Absolutely fantastic grilled/barbecued and served in a warmed pita bread with shredded cabbage, onion, some slices of lettuce and tomato.... You can also treat them as burgers, or cook them in a tomato/onio...

Oh dear, how sad!

I see on today's 'E-Kathimerini' that Greek pensioners are going to get a Christmas bonus of "only 400 euros". Having had my £10 Christmas bonus from the UK Pension Service this week, I can't quite decide whether to spend it on petrol at 1.71 euros a litre or buy a can of deodorant at 3.65...

Kastelli Health Centre - another new system

We went to see our regular doctor at Kastelli Health Centre today for our usual prescriptions, and found there is yet another new scheme in operation! After collecting your numbered ticket for the doctor at the reception desk, you have to go upstairs to the Secretary's office (left and then right), ...
