Re: Mosquitos

Back to mosquitoes - I've been bitten more in the last couple of weeks than all summer. I guess the wind has been blowing them in!

Re: Help! Got the toothache!

We use Manos Kastritis, Tim - he is the best dentist we've ever been to, anywhere, and his prices are ok too. His office is on the "dual carriageway" heading towards the tourist office, on the right hand side. Phone is 28430-26444 - normally by appointment, but he seems to fit in emergenci...

Re: Driving

We've both hired many times in the UK using our Greek licences, Jeff - no problems with Hertz, Avis, Budget or Europcar, so it may be that Sixt are being "picky". Your name is in Roman letters, which is what matters, surely and, as others have said, the codes are Europe wide.

Re: Santander Debit Card

Update - the old c/c was due to die (not expire, die ) at the end of this month, but MrsB has just received a replacement. I suspect there's some confusion going on between different sections of the Barclays machine. Doesn't surprise me - Barclays seem to be particularly inept at being consistent i...

Re: Transporting my Dog back to the uk!

If you want to DIY, I suggest you get in touch with Tracee Walton at Amber's Hope on Facebook, as they are transporting dogs to the UK regularly, and will know all the regulations and should be able to make suggestions as to how best you might do this. Otherwise, http://www.airpets.com/ should help....

Whatever any of us thinks about Brexit, and what I think isn't printable in a polite forum, the latest information from the UK Government is here - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/advice-for-british-nationals-travelling-and-living-in-europe?utm_source=26cbaac9-3747-407c-b7bf-5de8a07364db&utm_medium=...

Re: Car hire in UK

I also have annual excess insurance through icarhire - haven't had to make a claim so far, but it is good to have. Annual policy around 40 euros. Nb - I have a Greek licence, and have only ever been asked to produce the credit card I booked with, and my passport. I normally use Budget (as above), bu...

Re: Car hire in UK

https://www.budget.co.uk/TermsAndCondition is the link for Budget - I selected the option for Gatwick, as that's where I hire from normally. I imagine most car hire companies are pretty similar.

Re: Ryanair

I hope you can make the Sitia routing work for you, Tim. The dates & times of the Sitia/Athens/Heathrow link have never worked out for us! I've always assumed the return leg is quite tricky. I imagine you can't get to Athens early enough to catch the morning flight down to Sitia, which means an...

Re: Ryanair

I just hope they get the work finished at Heraklion before the majority of tourists arrive. It has been going on all winter, and has been moderately chaotic on the Aegean/Athens leg because of the limited space. Not wonderful over the last couple of weeks on EJ flights in and out. I'm curious as to ...

Re: DRM and e-books

Speaking as someone who has published ebooks I think it is fair enough that it isn't possible to download/copy them, as filippos says. Authors work hard to produce their work and, from experience, setting up for digital purposes can be a pain, as the formatting required is completely different from ...

Re: Where are the cats?

Hope it's just a coincidence but around 12 of the bin cats in Xirosterni seem to have disappeared in the last few days. Having driven through everyday since Friday, I've only seen a couple each day. There has been food put out on the wall by the bins but no sign of the usual throng of hungry feline...

Re: Greek Driving Licence

Just the plastic bit. NB it is worth remembering, too, that the plastic type British licence is only valid for 10 years, so if anyone has gone past that date the procedure is a little different, though not impossible!

Re: New Animal Welfare Law

...and in the meantime, those of us who work hard, alongside the municipalities, to help the strays, will just carry on doing so. This appears to be only "draft" legislation, so who knows what will actually find its way into law.
