Re: Block on renewal of IKA books due to BREXIT

... had to sign the declaration, which showed that we live here, and have no other insurance... Interesting. The declaration I and my friends signed, in Greek, didn't mention that we lived here, simply that we didn't have other insurance and would inform them if we did. I did try to point out that ...

Re: Block on renewal of IKA books due to BREXIT

We renewed ours at the IKA office in Sitia this morning. Produced passports and tax clearance certificate, and had to sign the declaration, which showed that we live here, and have no other insurance, and that was it. The declaration was in English, so clear enough - the first copy I was given was i...

Re: Property Register declaration

On consideration, surely the smart move is to forget about actually submitting your declaration until the deadline for Greek residents has passed. (Assuming you are non-resident for tax purposes). The office will then only be dealing with non-residents. By definition, there will be a lot fewer of t...

Re: Greek Driving Licence

Our local KEP handled this very smoothly this morning. The one catch was that we hadn't checked on the correct size for the photos and our spares from a UK passport application were too small. Easily solved. They also confirmed that we can pay the fee online. Do you know what size they should be ? ...

Re: Looking for doctor in Sitia.

Working on the assumption that you mean a general practitioner - a pathologos; we use Dr Despina Efchetzi - Δέσποινα Ευχέτζι. Office is on the "dual carriageway", opposite the main car park, and on the other side of the side street from the sportswear shop. Mornings from 9, but the waiting...

No, Andrew. 2 forms, each of which listed the 3 properties. The staff were extremely helpful, and were all to a greater or lesser extent, English speakers.

Re: Property Register declaration

Yes, ours is completed. Our accountant did the forms, we went to the Ktimatologio office in Sitia and spent an hour with the team there - we have a total of 3 plots of land, and joint ownership, so there were 6 things to be checked. There first person we saw, who was a lawyer went through the contra...

Re: Please explain

I think the really simple reason is that (as you will discover) many, many people here have the same name - not only first name, but surname as well. It is similar, therefore, to saying ie "Jones the butcher" or "Jones the mechanic". Here it is ......"Manolis the son of Yior...

Re: Greek Driving Licence

Was there not a requirement to have your UK licence "officially" translated into Greek, Carolina? We had to do this at our lawyer - charge was smallish, but it had to be done.

Re: The Will of the People

No problem, Bob. I wasn't really having a go at you. I was sounding off because again and again people make criticisms of the EU and how it operates that aren't valid, either because the EU doesn't operate in the way described or the issue is nothing to do with the EU. Warwick This is familiar, War...

Re: Property Register declaration

Update. We have done our registration of property this morning. Yes, there is a charge for the property declaration, according to the number of plots of land. Yes, your accountant will probably charge to prepare the paperwork, as it is outside the normal remit of what he/she does for you - ie tax ma...

Re: Eastern Crete

If you are an animal lover Cretans don`t treat there dogs very well most are kept chained or caged 24 hours a day! Well that's certainly not the case down the western end. We have a pro-active Mayor who is funding animal welfare clinics and free neutering programmes, as well as a police force who a...

Re: Property Register declaration

Only 50 euros a year Bob? You're getting a bargain! Or I'm being fleeced. Ours is significantly more than that as well but, as Warwick says, if there are "international" issues then we'd expect to pay more. Having said that, we are definitely keeping to the "it is an annual fee howev...

Re: Property Register declaration

The whole purpose of the registry is to have an accurate record of legal title, Jeff. If you own land, with or without a house you should have a contract from a notary. The registry wants to record who owns what. The local land registry did a partial job by recording the contracts but the new land ...

Re: Property Register declaration

Tim, we have agricultural land, and the same accountant! I've been told to take all the documents to them in early January to check, and then go to the place on the Piskokefalo road. We actually have the "missing" one, as we went to a registry place in Sitia some years ago at the behest, I...
