Re: Museum Fire

I presume that's the building at the top of Tzanakaki Street. I thought it had been completely renovated a few years ago? I assumed it was in use as a museum again ........ Warwick Several years ago it seemed the renovations were complete. We went to Xania by bus and got off outside (on our way to ...

Re: Santander Debit Card

When we opened the new account the employee of the bank that refused an account told us specifically that only if we produced our Passports would proof of address not be needed. Without the Passports the usual proofs would be required. Until we tried it successfully we were very sceptical, especiall...

Re: Santander Debit Card

Although FATCA has existed ................ I recall that you posted some time ago, Filippos, about your experience of opening an account in Switzerland where you also did not need to provide proof of address. Almost two years ago the Swiss bank requested confirmation of where I am resident for tax...

Re: Santander Debit Card

If it is at all possible I would recommend maintaining at least one UK bank account registered to a UK address, e.g. family or friend. Warwick How do you get round the UK address problem without utility bills in your name etc? Bob. We opened a new account with one of the main high street banks a co...

That's another with which I had nothing other than exemplary service since they took over the remnants of Bank of Cyprus in Greece. They even gave me a credit card.

Re: Santander Debit Card

They didn't climb down for everybody, Bob, some people were still refused. I think those of us who complained to the Chief Exec early were the lucky ones.......... I must have been super-lucky, Warwick. My Santander account has been registered to a Greek address since we moved here 16+ years ago. T...

Isn't that almost always the case? Attack the strong and they might lose or am I just too cynical?

Re: Junker

Mr. J has either suffered from his bad back for years or has been otherwise incapacitated. There have been many reports over the years of his liking for alcohol. Having never been close to the man I'm not in a position to judge but I don't remember his instability on previous occasions being blamed ...

Your posts were hardly a model of clarity but not to worry. ......................, Keep up. With that attitude to someone who's previously offered information that might be useful I shan't be attempting to keep up with you as I'll be ignoring any future posts of yours. I consider your final comment...

Re: Any advice on starting a business in Crete?

It works well on car windscreens and headlights. I know it's a commercial product but dishwasher rinse stuff like Finish is good on windows - about a dessert-spoonful in a bucket of warm water. I apply and clean with a coarse cloth and dry with absorbent paper (or newspaper on the rare occasions we ...

Re: Any advice on starting a business in Crete?

Fillipos it is great to read you are fit and well despite getting on to be a παππούs - I hope that means you don't take any e.g. bp medications, blood thinners et al. I have two each of great-nephews and great-nieces, age range 3 to 18, but the likelihood of παππούs-hood minimal. My son is determin...

Re: Any advice on starting a business in Crete?

I speak from experience .I had to give up the demon drink due to health problems .Namely severe heart burn and constant pain in the chest .I have the odd one but no more nights getting drunk on the stuff! ( well maybe the odd night ,probably once a month ,well maybe twice.). That's an entirely diff...

Re: Money Moving Post Brexit

my accountant has told me I must use my debit card as much as possible, and have been told by someone else that fines will be imposed if you don't use credit/debit cards. Things may have changed and it's the first I've heard of fines for non use of cards. My understanding is that Greek taxpayers wi...
