Re: How do I catch a bus? Or taxi?

A few months ago we took our car for service at the main dealer in Souda Avenue and wanted to get from there to Xania centre. The dealer offered to phone for a taxi but pointed out a bus stop 50m away. We went to the bus stop and joined a Greek man who was waiting. The bus arrived and we three board...

Re: Relocating to Crete

... On the other hand Filippos, who posts on here, gets excellent broadband in Kalyves only a few km from Plaka..... Yes, I do have an excellent broadband connection; as the crow flies I'm within 200m of the exchange and there's a main connection box within 50m of the house. The phone line and broa...

Re: Kent Report

... This forum and the Brexit section in particular is incredibly important in the debate on the merits of leaving or remaining... Any debates we might have here or elsewhere are a waste of breath whether one is in favour of remaining in or leaving the EU. We can talk until doomsday but we the &quo...

Re: Kent Report

Oh do give it a rest Brian. Practically everything that's been said by both sides is nothing more than speculation, as it was before the referendum and since. The best anyone can hope for is that whatever situation arises once the separation happens is dealt with promptly and effectively by whomever...

Kilkis wrote:... Increasing it to 25 digits gives 10 trillion trillion so they are covered in the event of an up-tick in birthrate.

They might need that many codes with the recent and current birthrates in this neck of the woods.

Re: DEH Electricity Company

Our latest bill, paid this morning (06/12 with final payment date 07/12), still has the 12 digit code. I'll watch for a number change on the next bill.

Re: Ellinair

Please report back on Ellinair, Clio - sounds interesting and almost too good to be true! I don't often take much notice of customer reviews (mainly food/hotels: there's usually no indication if people have actually used the services offered so there's no knowing how many are paid-for fake 5-star, ...

Re: Amazon Delivery

...........My landlady in Kilkis, 50 km north of Thessaloniki, sent her daughter Sunday dinner and many other food parcels this way for the whole time she was studying at University in Athens. We have a friend who regularly sends food parcels on the ferry from Souda to her son in Athens. Apparently...

Re: Amazon Delivery

Things are happening. This afternoon I received e-mails, re. two of my awaited deliveries, telling me they've been passed on to ELTA who will advise me by e-mail or phone of their arrival at Kalyves PO. The mails also included the ELTA tracking numbers. I suspect what will happen is that Manolis The...

Re: Amazon Delivery

Would that their deliveries here were such closely tracked, efficient deliveries. I'm awaiting four packages which aren't overdue yet but I'll be relieved when the delivery driver phones saying "I'll be in the village in five minutes", usually while I'm still dripping after clambering out ...

Re: Thinking of starting a security /property maintenance business.

It seems, Mr. Brown, that you've already decided what to do and don't really want any advice from people like Kilkis who have lived and worked in Greece for 20+ years. Your implied general condemnation of the Greek (and other nationalities) attitude to work does you no credit either.

Re: Thinking of starting a security /property maintenance business.

How would you cope if some catastrophic event happened while you were in SW England or, for that matter even watering plants? Also, if you're intending to operate legally (which many don't) you'll need a licence and to set up a business which will involve ongoing costs. Apart from that, if you'll be...

I'd say they're on a par. He did such a good job for my friends that they ran out of things to say in praise of him. As it happens, both we and they agree with you about the taverna.

Re: Bathrooms - any recommendations

If Warwick is right about your location Zilimbilaki's bathroom shop (Επιλογι) in Kalyves, opposite the petrol station as you head for the Ethniki on the road from Kalyves to Armenoi, about 250m from the laundry. They'll probably be able to recommend a reliable builder. There's a builder turned resta...
