Re: Things aren't always what they seem

Similar things have been reported several times in the UK following a "system failure" to record a death. The instances reported were mainly benefit fraud when pensions payments continued and months or, in some cases, years later some relative claimed they didn't realise the payments shoul...

Re: Water Shortage

I suppose the dam could be fixed for a start if not already. Little old ladies could stop washing down the whole street every day and the water companies could do more to fix their leaks and invest more. I think the main problem with the reservoir is that it leaks a lot of water from the bottom. Al...

Re: Change Of Heart?

It's a shame we can't shut you up at the same time as we encourage Graeme. Said like a true Brexiter Filippos. Only fools make crass assumptions. You have no idea whether I voted stay or go, was disenfranchised after 15+ years outwith the UK, like Bob Scott or even abstained. My comment was really ...

Re: Storm Clouds.

........ how long before the brexiters start sabre rattling about we are better than the rest... :( Forget brexiters and remainers. Since, say, 1900 when did the UK last do any sabre rattling. We've been involved in two world wars and a dust up against Argentina but those were in response to threat...

Re: Piraeus Bank ATM Withdrawal Charge

To me, the easiest thing to do would be to go Piraeus Bank in Kalyves and ask. Kostas the manager, whose desk is at the far right hand end of the banking hall will know. He's helpful, knowledgeable and if you need to use English, his is excellent.

Re: Life with a pacemaker

I don't think that's changed unless in the last six weeks or so. I had an MRI scan 6-8 weeks ago and was specifically asked about having a pacemaker or any metal in my body.

Re: Command-Picture-Hanging strips

Have a look at them on Amazon (just enter the words in Amazon search) and you'll find lots of descriptive info. It seems they don't carry much weight with 'medium' hooks being OK for up to 1 Kilo. If you Google them there's lots more info about using/removing/re-using them. Also bear in mind the onl...

Re: DEYAAN account number

Sometimes the number on the bill will have a hyphen, frequently before the final digit. Like you I was tearing my hair until a Greek friend said, "Just leave out the dash". It worked.

Re: Thinking about buying in Rethymnon?

I think you'll find that Kostas doesn't work in Rethimno. He's been our lawyer since 1998 but when we were thinking of buying in Rethimno several years ago he said the way the closed shop* works he couldn't be involved but could recommend a friend there. Maybe things have changed. If he does now wor...

Re: Car hire in UK

Last time I rented in the UK was just before Christmas three years ago and we flew into Heathrow. Of course rental car were a rarity at LHR with several companies claiming to have nothing available. The cheapest I was offered was a BMW 3-series at something over £300 per day. I don't remember exactl...

Whatever side they're on the people I can't stand are those that have the attitude that anyone with an opinion different from theirs must be stupid without the intellect to make a considered choice. It's obvious there are some contributors to this board with that attitude. I'm happy to debate all da...

Re: Art materials in Chania

Kyvos does have a web site https://www.e-kybos.gr/ which is all in Greek but put the url into Google translate and choose English as the target language you get a pretty good translation although the layout gets slightly distorted. In the red bar across the top hover the mouse pointer over individua...
