This is our 17th winter in Crete without TV and have never missed it and never thought one essential. It's possible to find plenty to do here at any time. ;-)

Re: Sandblasting

Depending on the cost of sand blasting and professional spray painting my back-up plan would be to check the cost of new tables as they don't cost even a small fortune. Many of the vehicle repair paint shops have facilities to bake the paint finish and probably have pretty good knowledge about deali...

Re: To have a TV or not?

We never had TV in any accommodation when we were on holiday here. When we moved here permanently we decided not to have TV* and have survived without it for almost 17 years. We have never missed it. Also, in 2004 we built a holiday apartment alongside our house and did not provide TV (or Internet c...

Re: Direct flight to Gatwick this morning.......

.......... not because the airlines don't want it. I am sure there is a market for it, ..... I'm pretty sure that if the airlines thought there would be enough profit they would fly the route. They have a given number of aircraft which they deploy on routes that give the best return so there a mass...

Re: Appalling weather

This is perhaps not the best week to be moving into our new house just outside Rethymno! It’s been a difficult week trying to get around the roads ........... it can only get better.... can’t it??? Sallyb, it'll all work out and you'll look back on your move with laughter and smiles. But oh, this w...

Re: International driving permits for UK drivers from 28 March 2019

I've just checked the Post Office website again, and the FAQ section of the page: https://www.postoffice.co.uk/international-driving-permit#IDP-Checker now specifically states: Can someone apply for an IDP on my behalf? Yes they can, providing they have the correct supporting documents. So, if you ...

Re: Block on renewal of IKA books due to BREXIT

We did ours last month at IKA, Xania. Filled out and signed the declaration; the clerk, meanwhile, entered our Passport details into the system and waved away the proffered tax return. Σας ευχαριστούμε πάρα πολύ. Καλή μέρα. Job done.

Do you mean, Bob, that after all your years here you don't just leave your car near* where you want to go?

Seems a lot of fuss and bother to avoid paying €10 and waiting for 10 minutes! Bob. €10, Bob? I'm currently renewing mine and couldn't be a***d to set up tripod/camera/appropriate background for up-to-date selfie, resize photo (UK size is not any standard photo aspect ratio) etc*. Going to Xania fo...

Re: Greek Driving Licence

I think some shops producing passport photos commercially use a dye-sublimation photo printer, which is effectively not pixelated despite being fed a pixelated image from a digital camera? I think it is the same technology used in photo-booth equipment. I could be wrong. I think you're right, Warwi...

If you intend to print your own, note the third and fourth bullet points under A on the official technical specification . Re: Any advice please on travelling with my cat

Almost no hassle and far cheaper to have the cats re-homed, which is what I did with mine. Last seen being driven away on the passenger seat of a Porche Carrera. For a long time there has been an overabundance of cats here and there's far less chance of animals being poisoned in the UK.
