Re: Madness at Meskla!

You could always knock up a sign yourself and plant it where appropriate. Local Cretans won't bothers as they'll all know about the short cut hazards.

Re: Land Plot and sqm of house

I think it depends on how far beyond the village boundary the plot is located. I don't know the distances involved but there are/were three zones - within the village boundary, within x metres of the boundary 2000m² required and beyond y metres needing 4000+m². I'm not up to date with the actual dis...

Re: Dermatologist required.

Absolutely recommended: I first encountered Giorgios Milonakis in 2002 and have consulted him several times since then and think he's excellent. Address: 2nd Floor, Skalidi & Peiraios 1-3 Megaro Plaza - that's above the supermarket on the street opposite Zara. Go to 2nd floor and he's at the thi...

Re: Transferring funds, and pink slips

Transferwise offer better rates and never use your U.K bank as rates are low. The same with CurrencyFair. Better rates than UK banks and to transfer Euros the charge is €3.00. Our bank here (Piraeus) charges €4.00 to receive the money. Set up the transfer early in the day and the transfer is usuall...

Re: purchasiing a home that requires renovations

The engineer you employ will guide you through the process. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that if you do the work yourselves that you will avoid paying IKA (roughly equivalent to NI in the UK). You will be regarded as just another worker and IKA payments will be required as appropriate. The C...

Re: Where to rent a Moving Truck

think I'd be geting a tow hitch and buy a trailer...u can always sell it when finished..... You'll have to bear in mind that if you have a trailer it needs to be registered as a unit with whatever vehicle tows it. As Mouche pointed out above fines are likely to be pretty big (€thousands) when you g...

Yeah it's all go here ...the dogs are hiding under the desk in the back room .. They're obviously not Labradors. I had a couple in the UK and Bonfire Night was hell. At the first bang they were at the door scrabbling to escape to go retrieving. At any other time the only time I had a problem was a ...

Re: rent or buy?

I think a good UK accountant could be very useful to some people. ..........Indeed it was a good accountant who told me, at the time, that I had to spend a night in the property I had been renting.......... I though that the minimum living in period was 6 months buy it's a long time since I checked...

Re: Looking for dentist on Andrea Papandreou, Xania

Thank you Warwick - he is the one we were looking for. So who do you go to now, Filippos if you don't mind me asking? For about 18 months went to Milonakis in Nearchou St, Xania: good but very expensive; in the couple of years since then have been very happy with treatment by Giorgios Papadogiorgak...
