Re: Highway Roadworks near Aptera

Much better arrangement this morning. The road work signs are displayed much further back than before and there are a lot more of them. The normal highway speed signs have been covered over. There are now three men with flags, ushering vehicles through. There are orange bollards fixed to road from th...

Re: Highway Roadworks near Aptera

I went in and out of Hania this morning. Going in wasn’t too bad (about 10am) One lone policeman and his whistle, overriding the lights and letting a lot of cars through at one time. Last time I went, there were two policemen, one at each end of the lights. Coming back, longs queues, but only about a...

Re: Highway Roadworks near Aptera

Even so, such a sheer drop will require some advanced engineering work to shore up.. It can’t be just a ‘band-aid’ job. I too had heard that they were going to ‘take’ a bit of land on the inland side (near to where there is a lay-by type parking bit) to widen the road here. Well no doubt we will see...

Re: English speaking doctors

Also, in Kalives. The Kalives medical practice. From Almyrida turn left at the laundry junction towards the highway. On the left diagonally opposite the EKO petrol station. Drs Manos and Yianis, speak excellent English, will do call out visits and have a host of doctors in their network for specific...

Re: The Will of the People

My problem with the whole farce is that the 2016 referendum is it is not what we have got now, nor what was voted for. I don’t even think a referendum has to follow electorate procedure/law. It is not a case of ‘we won, you lost, get over it’ that is a very churlish view, nobody, certainly not Briti...

Re: Wood burner

Bear in mind that a lot of Greek stoves are more ‘ornamental’ than ‘functional’ by which, I mean the seals around the door etc. Having said that, there has been a marked improvement with choice, since I first came in the early 1990s. We have a Charnwood stove, from the Isle of Wight ( bought before ...

Re: Please explain

Yep, makes me smile too. In Scotland children were given a mother’s maiden name for their middle name. My father’s middle name was Bishop. Always causes genuflecting and hilarity when going through the process of paperwork especially at the olive factory.
