Re: Notaris strike

Thanks for the comments and advice. I understand now that the buyer chooses the lawyer and after 7 years in Greece, I get it. Don't trust anybody! That said we were not for signing a POI for that very reason. Now, taking on board Tore's comment it sounds like a good idea to have our lawyer sign the ...

Re: Notaris strike

Thanks, Tore. Yes, the buyer's lawyer is in Athens. So it makes sense. I appreciate you asking your lawyer. It's has been a difficult process so far and we can't expect and end any time soon if the Notary's remain on strike. But, it is good to know our situation is not unheard of!

Re: Notaris strike

Thanks, Kilkis, So wish we had asked the specific questions. As it was we trusted what we were told by our lawyer. Date not set yet (due apparently to the Notary's strike?) but expect it soon. Not sure why a 3-day strike results in a 2-week delay but who am I to argue! After 7 years in Greece, I tho...

Re: Notaris strike

Thanks, Kilkis. That is enough to prompt some more questions. We were quickly shut up when we initially queried it. I can see no reason for it being in Athens.....

Re: Notaris strike

Hi, We have a house in Crete and finally a buyer. However, the sale was due to be finalised 7th February but we are now told by our Lawyer in Crete that we must sign the contract in Athens and the Notary strike will delay the date until 20th February. Given the strike was for 3 days this seems unrea...

Anyone know a good builder?

Hi, Does anyone know a good builder in the Fres area? Would prefer a local person who is happy to do small jobs. Within a 10 kilometre radius would be ok. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Gluten Free Dairy Free

Hello JayCee, I live here 50 % of the year and I'm Coeliac. There is a limited amount of gluten free food available in shops here. Mainly pasta and bread and some biscuits/crackers and oats. I buy M and S bread mix and bring it back with me and maybe granola. You definitely won't find the range avai...

Re: Felling Cypress trees

I'm not a tree hugger or anything, I just don't like the wanton destruction of something beautiful just because someone knows they are above the law and can get away with it. It was a lovely tree. And it did allegedly have some degree of protection. Allegedly. Anyway I am over it. If if complain the...

Re: Felling Cypress trees

Thanks Bob, really appreciate the information. When we first moved here five years ago there was a large Cypress tree making the road to our house narrow. People we knew said it was likely to incur a fine if we removed it. We had no intention of removing and so didn't because it is lovely. It is suc...

Re: Felling Cypress trees

No. Not a lot of point... I just wanted to know the rules so if it is illegal I can tell someone so he doesn't take down any more! He doesn't strike me as the kind of man who would welcome any input from a woman ;)

Felling Cypress trees

Hi, I was vaguely under the impression that it was illegal, indeed that it carried a 1,000 euro fine to fell a Cypress tree in the Apokoronas region. So yesterday a 'neighbour' lopped down a beautiful 70 foot specimen that we had previously enjoyed the sight of. Now in its place there is a gaping ch...

Re: DPD telephone number Chania

Very true :) and thank you, I have my parcels :) very happy.... funny thing is my son knows that there can be issues getting parcels and he wrapped it and shrink wrapped it beautifully with a sheet of white paper on the inside and my name and address in clear bold red letters. The telephone number (...

Re: DPD telephone number Chania

Thanks, very helpful. managed to get hold a very helpful lady who told me the courier had tried to phone me twice yesterday. They hadn't and I told her this when she explained the two parcels wouldn't now be delivered until after Christmas. Given the courier was in Vrísses and my telephone number wa...
