Re: UK Tap washers

If you are wanting to use lovely old bath taps ..it's worth using a reseating tool very gently before you replace the washer, it smooths out the imperfections and cleans off the limescale on the part of the tap the washer squashes onto .The result is a tap that closes fully with out using loads of f...

Re: Gardens and Grass

......Yes you are dead right Andrew ..but a couple of three or four thousand litre tanks will mean I will waste less drinking water for growing stuff ,be able to flush the loos and keep the fruit trees living through the water rationing periods.... Crikey, I wish I could afford to buy a couple of f...

Re: I smelled a rat, and I found a rat

On run-up to the election I found this interesting fact, that ITV news is funded by the BBC license fee and that their news comes from the same major news suppliers. As BBC funding is within the gift of the Tory government to grant or withdraw it is worth knowing how controlled the media is, especi...

Re: Gardens and Grass

A rainwater storage system sounds lovely doesn't it? However, Crete is not the UK. In the UK the tank will constantly be topped up. Here, we get almost no rain for 5 months or so in the summer. How big a tank could you install? Once you've used up what rain fell in the winter it will just sit there...

Re: Gardens and Grass

Yes I'm looking at making a raised platform with a water tank .(.the bigger the better.). set on it so the rain water from the roof of the house and workshop runs into it it and the trees can be watered with a network of pipes just below the surface fed by gravity just by turning on a tap ...some ki...

Re: Gardens and Grass

With the water shortages we have in Crete I think grass is not really a possibility unless your house has rainwater storage system and irrigation ...I'm planning a system like this for some fruit trees I have.

Re: I smelled a rat, and I found a rat

No, that's good Jeff. It means you have a strong sense of social justice and are extremely liberal in outlook. Live and let live. You're not, by any chance, an ageing hippie? That would fit! Well both my parents were socialists and hard grafters, hated any kind of prejudice ..taught us to be freeth...

Re: I smelled a rat, and I found a rat

Well I knew Rod personally in a previous life, Jeff, and he was certainly never averse to winding people up -- and he still does it very well -- but it makes me smile when he talks about "the establishment" because, of course, he was at the very epicentre of "the establishment" ...

Re: I smelled a rat, and I found a rat

I find it strange that Rod Liddle writes ...in the blurb about his book "'Betcha we don't leave.' I wrote that on the evening of 24 June 2016, once the euphoria had passed. A lot of us leavers, despite being elderly and thick, knew. The establishment wouldn't let it happen." It's the estab...
