Re: Quake!

Yep we felt it here ...I was sitting reading and one of our dogs came and sat under my chair the other barked and went in the other room ....then a bit later it happened it went on for a few seconds long enough for me to reach down and speak to the dog and put my hand on his head , while the tremor ...

Re: satellite dish

Try googling Tooway ... there was a company in Crete who installed a dish and modem . I got our kit from the UK from a company called Bentley Walker some times they have special deals of free kit. It is very easy to DIY.. with basic tools, drill, spanner screwdriver....if you can wire a plug and put...

Re: Internet connection for visitors

I guess you must be talking about paying guests ?...When we have friends or family to stay we set up a guest link to our WIFI so while they are at the house they use that for work related stuff or keeping in touch with home ...there is loads of free wifi when in town in most bars , tavernas , or caf...

Re: Any advice on starting a business in Crete?

Yes, we have given up using super market cleaning products , and use olive oil soap , wine vinegar , lemon juice and essential oils ...but never tried Raki. I must have at least 60 or 70 kilos of the stuff that I will never drink so I'm interested in what it's used for ...I find good drinkable raki ...

Re: Any advice on starting a business in Crete?

Yep , I also prefer my own home grown red wine , if I go back to the UK I'm horrified by the price of wine and disappointed with the flavour ....I am interested to know what you can clean with raki , I must be missing a trick.

Re: Any advice on starting a business in Crete?

Yes I think Raki is fairly benign ,when it's your own and you know whats in it. I have drunk some odd tasting stuff that has been offered to me and surreptitiously tipped it away. But mostly I think it's a pretty good drink...we have a very well organised village still 20 mts from the end of our gar...

Re: UNBLOCKING PHONE

Yeah. I had a new locked cheap Nokia given to me my a friend in the UK ...I asked in the local phone shops and got blank looks ...so I went on line for the unlocking method ..to get the phone unlocked cost 10 quid almost what the phone was worth ... I never use expensive phones just 'burners' there ...

Re: Money Moving Post Brexit

I think that most folk do that anyway , Having a UK bank account to have your pension paid into and only moving what you need to pay bills into your greek bank account would be my preferred option....If the UK leave the EU ,having a state pension paid into a UK bank might mean the pension does not g...

Re: Any advice on starting a business in Crete?

I always (and all my friends around here) treat the olive harvest and olive tree pruning as two separate jobs ....I think its better to get the olives in and to the factory asap ...then when it's all done and dusted ....the nets go out in the field to get a wash in the winter rain (some hope) chains...

Re: Any advice on starting a business in Crete?

Sounds like a good plan , I've tried on a small scale making faggots out of prunings an they work very well put a couple in the wood stove in the morning while the tea is brewing and bingo instant heat .. I have also tried pyrini compressed into blocks for the stove but they were very labour intensi...
