Re: Polecats

Mothballs are called "nafthaleenee" in Greek. General hardware shops often stock them. If you can't get them in perforated plastic containers, make your own out of plastic tubular containers. They seem to work. My Honda wiring hasn't been chewed since I suspended tubes of mothballs around ...

Re: Ground Almonds and Dried Figs

Surely the cheapest method is to bung almonds in a blender and lie figs out in the sun to dry? I have a small fig tree in my garden and my part-time UK neighbour has a huge tree and lets me pick figs from it. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+dry+figs As for fresh almonds, I don't ...

Re: Why Brexit is Right

So there were never any product safety tests, or regulations in the UK before joining the EU then ? As you know, there were and they were better and they were enforced. Since the EU imposed its rules, the regulations are not enforced and all sorts of crap is imported without restriction. As an exam...

Re: Skype Update

WhatsApp works on a Mac? I thought it worked only on a "smartphone" (which I don't have). I note that Microsoft has installed a Skype "update" on my Mac. On launching it, I discover that it "can not find a camera". I unclip camera and wave it in front of the screen but ...

Predictions for 2019 include a Hard Brexit

Predictions for 2019 include a Hard Brexit on March 31st. And NO second referendum.
(This guy has a good track record of predicting what will happen. For example, he predicted Trump's win and - like it or not - that was correct.)

Re: Driving from England to Chania March 2018

I was really tempted to comment on the post by the lady who was "pouring" over flowers in Lidl but I resisted the temptation - knowing that Philip would put his PC hat on and condemn me!

Re: Cot wanted

Hiring is uncommon on Crete. Greek extended families are large and someone always has a relative who will lend them what they need.

I suggest buying what you need and selling when you're finished with it. Try advertising on the two Cretan Facebook groups.

Re: Used car wanted

In a few years I.C.E. cars will plummet in value. Electric engines are taking over. I realise that it's not obvious (here, at least) but all car manufacturers have stated that their future production will be hybrid or all-electric. UK cities such as Oxford have announced that I.C.E. vehicles are to ...

Erect a clear, polypropylene roof over the area. Make it slope at least 3 degrees. Easy to hose down when the rain doesn't do it for you.

Re: Permanent Residence Document

I must have missed something. I have a beige (indefinite) residency permit. Are you saying that this (indefinite) permit is no longer indefinite?

P.s. I just used it to renew my IKA book in Haniá.

Re: email and new router problem

Clearly, the problem lies with the new router settings. To see them, launch your web browser and type in the address, such as: http://192.168.1.1 and hit Enter. That address might be on the router's label and/or in the instruction leaflet. Then type in the Admin name (usually "admin") and ...

BBC and VPN

I just cancelled my contract with StrongVPN because they can no longer provide an IP address that works with BBC. They refused a refund. There are VPN providers that still work but I'm not going to name them here because I'm sure that the BBC has people trawling the Internet looking for such posts s...

I have an acquaintance near Triopetra who would like periodic deliveries of organic veg. Willing to pay. Maybe worth considering if you can't find a better cause.
Sorry, I don't know of an orphan's charity.

Re: One Drive on not-so-smart Samsung phone

You might also find Calibre useful. It is an app that works on Windows and mobile devices that allows you to organise a library of books and read them. You can use it on your PC and then load them onto a reader device such as kindle, android smart phone/tablet or iPhone/iPad. Just to avoid ambiguit...
