Re: Greece strikes, other potential disruptions & Bank Holidays

Metro too 24 hours from Sunday night (as today: took nearly three hours from airport to Syntagma, finally by taxi because buses impossibly crowded).

Carry-On Counting

One of the more entertaining aspects of flying Aegean has always been the sight of Greek fellow travellers struggling down the aisle with vast amounts of oversized, overweight cases, not to mention the shoulder bags, back-packs, holdalls, giant cardboard boxes, huge cellophane parcels of glika, and ...

Re: Getting rid of coins

I took some once to the post office and asked if they could change them. Postmaster Aristides hesitated a bit before agreeing, and asking me to come back later. When I did, and collected my ten euros or whatever it was, I found out why he hadn't been too keen. I was embarrassed to discover that the ...

Re: Its here ! The Big Christmas Fayre. This Sunday, 3rd December

On the return journey go past the olive press and follow the road under the National Highway. Turn left at the T junction and that will take you back onto the carriageway going East. Read that too late to comply so we just followed our noses in an easterly direction via some interesting back roads,...

Re: Its here ! The Big Christmas Fayre. This Sunday, 3rd December

For the benefit of those of us travelling against the tide of Westenders and coming from the Rethymno direction, could somebody kindly provide an idiot's guide to getting off the Ethniki and to the venue?

Re: Internet Problems

my techie friend has just visited and assures me that it's nothing to do with my PC - the problem is caused by OTE doing works in the area, and there's nothing for it but to hope they'll soon finish. I love my techie friend dearly but I think he should probably stick to sheep farming. After days of...

Thanks everybody for advice, all filed for future reference. But my techie friend has just visited and assures me that it's nothing to do with my PC - the problem is caused by OTE doing works in the area, and there's nothing for it but to hope they'll soon finish. At the moment the connection is fin...

Internet Problems

I have been plagued by them for the last two days. The connection keeps cutting out, for a period of some hours, then is OK again. The message I get is "a network change was detected". I don't know if the problem is a general one to do with Cosmote locally, or if it's just me. So I phone t...

Re: Greek Lessons or Books

I only mention it because this is a thread about language...

they were just enumerate.

Enumerate: "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways" That's Elizabeth Barrett Browning, enumerating.

Innumerate: that's me, failing to make head or tail of my electricity bill.

Re: Greek Lessons or Books

Blimey, Warwick, If somebody who hasn’t done much walking fancies stretching their legs, and asks about a nice route round the lower slopes of Scafell Pike, would you give them a climbing map for the ascent of the South Col of Everest! Yes, Alan, it’s true the grammar can be complicated . But you do...

Re: IKA and over 65's

it (the EHIC health card) effectively works as though you had an IKA health book . Sorry, Kilkis, but I think you are wrong, and Filippos is right. The two things are not at all the same. The distinction is as Phil describes it. It (the card) is intended to provide medical assistance for emergency ...
