Re: Satalite?

Unfortunately the BBC iPlayer/VPN system is constantly under attack by the BBC as they block VPNs.

We use FilmOn which is pretty good. It also has a recording facility so you can view your progs later. The capacity for recording is not endless, but it does us for HIGNFY, Uni Challenge and the like.

Re: new topography for property

Quick question - why do you need a 'new' one? We were given a new one - paid for, of course - when we legalised our house, and that was what we presented to the land registry people.

Re: Legalising a property

This may be a stupid question why do folk get property legalised ? Is it because they are thinking of selling it? If you are just going to live it it till you peg it why bother. Is there any advantage to having it done and will it need doing again in 30 years? I'm unlikely to be around then . seems...

We moved some £££ here a few months back, expecting the worst. The £:€ rate improved. D'oh.

Re: Legalising a property

A few things based purely on our experiences - The fine was dependent on the original date of construction. Ours was before the cut-off date (1957?? I forget) so it was on the cheap side. It took us some 6 years to do, though most of that was waiting for 'the architectural committee of Leonidio' to ...

Re: Another Scam - OTE (not)

I'd say "Hold on, I'll get my dad" then leave the line open so they can listen to my Indie band music. You should have a few Slipknot tracks handy, that would make them hang up quickly. I didn't play anything too outrageous as I wanted them to keep paying for an open line. Blondie - (Don'...

Re: Another Scam - OTE (not)

We've had several of these calls. The first wave gave themselves away by saying they were phoning from O.T.E. (oh-tee-ee). In the second wave they'd changed to oh-tee :D Today's lady claimed to be working for oh-tee even though she wasn't Greek. Next time I'll torment them with my broken Greek and m...

Re: The Will of the People

If one of the reasons HMG puts forward to the EU in its application to extend A50, is for time to enact legislation to remove No Deal from the statute books, as per the indicative vote this evening, I'm sure the EU will grant the extension like a shot. Once No Deal is not possible, one imagines tha...

Re: Living in Greece without Registration Certificate, help/advice needed.

I know at least one person (and there must be many more) who has driven a UK registered vehicle in Crete for at least 10 years, with only the occasional short drive back to England, and has, so far, "got away with it." I've heard of it, but it strikes me as nuts. When we moved to Greece I...

What nationality are you? Personally - right now - I wouldn't encourage a Brit to buy in Greece. The situation is just too precarious, even for those of with 'residency rights' already established (for now).

Meanwhile, during our happy 4 hours in the office, we overheard at least two Greeks claiming that their original contracts were destroyed in house fires. Translation: there never was a contract.

And now I've gone to pay the fees online, but the payment code is 6 groups of 4 numbers, unlike other payments I make. Anybody have a clue which authority I'm supposed to pay? The Ktimatologio is not in the list. Tax and then scroll down for the Cadastre NBG seems to have just one category, "A...
