Re: Lightning damage

When I worked for the power industry in the UK Midlands we had in our central control room access to a very powerful 'radar' system. This showed in real time every lightening strike in the UK, out over the North Sea and even into Holland. The colour screen was coded so every new strike was shown in ...

Re: sky tv

I had this problem. I have a skybox and a non sky box. I could receive sky on my non sky box (Free to air and encrypted) but not on my sky box, I reluctantly pruned the olive tree that was overhanging the dish increasing the signal quality to 36%, the sky box then initiated ok. It would appear that ...

Re: Vodafone 4G

Thanks for that post. I could make calls ok and I still have all my credits, minutes etc but I was totally unable to connect to the internet when I had a 4g signal. Now it's dropped to 3g my internet has returned. Mystery solved.

Re: Organ donation in Greece

When my late wife had an operation in Heraklion University Hospital she was asked to provide so many units of blood. Greek, German and USA friends donated at Chania Hospital on her behalf. When I tried to donate I was refused for the reasons stated in previous posts. However because I had turned up a...

Re: Greek Lessons or Books

Good joke Warwick, but apparently after lots of research they decided that the 'rule' didn't actually work and they have officially dropped it. Only oldies like you and me remember it.

Re: postal service

I understand that the Post Office in Vamos gets the mail delivered to it and collected from it at 7 am, which incidentally is before it opens to the public. It is therefore not possible to send it on the day of posting. Any mail posted on a Friday won't leave until 7 am Monday. This isn't a problem ...

Re: Airconditioning Installer? VAMOS area

Lefteris recently installed 3 units for me. I was offered two makes. a) The slightly more expensive where the mechanical parts were guaranteed for 10 years and the electronics for 5 years b) Less expensive with the mechanical parts guaranteed for 5 years and the electronics for 2 years. I was very s...

Re: Half Litre Pyrex Measuring Jug

Thanks everyone. It looks as if my first impression was correct and that they are not available in Crete. I will bring one back from the UK, although a friend? did suggest that I make my fortune and import loads of them if they are so scarce! There are three options, metal, plastic or glass (Pyrex),...

Thanks for the info re- Lidl, but I'm still looking for a 500ml jug, so any news on one of these would be welcome.

Half Litre Pyrex Measuring Jug

Where abouts in the Apokoronas or Chania area can I buy a half litre Pyrex measuring jug. I have seen other Pyrex (or similar) items but never a measuring jug. All sensible suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance

Re: Tax Resident or 365 Day Tourist in Perpetuity

As usual Warwick a good summary. However the question I would ask (and I'm not expecting an answer) is :- If the Greek Tax authorities do decide to apply the 183 day rule with vigour, so those expats who are currently not tax resident in Greece but are here for more than 183 days, suddenly find them...

Re: A Cautionary Tale

Yes Warwick, this more or less agrees with what my accountant told me today. Property tax was introduced in 2006 and ran until 2010. Not many people paid it because their house was below the threshold. From 2010 to 2013 it was collected as we all remember via the Electricity Bill. From 2014 until th...
