Re: Where are the cats?

I thought the Taverna owners bred new kittens every year for the start of the tourist season. Ahh look at that kitten, isn't it cute.

Re: Greek Driving Licence

Warwick Some years ago I visited a KEP to enquire about swapping my UK driving licence (EU style) for a Greek one. I was told I had to have it translated into Greek. I pointed out those things you have already mentioned and that the only items to translate were my name, which wouldn't need translati...

Re: Please settle a wager .

Ivy is not a parasite it uses its 'suckers' like a drunk, for support only. As mentioned earlier it often grows on the walls of houses, there's not much succour in bricks and mortar. It also grows on dead trees. Popular belief is that the Ivy has killed the tree, this is not usually the case. As pre...

Re: Public Water Fountains

Public Toilets are almost extinct because of excessive vandalism. Not just the occasional isolated instance, but regular and frequent. Repaired and reopened within a week they can be targeted again. In addition the frequent cleaning because of deliberate fouling is also a problem. This is especially...

Re: Lightning damage

When I worked for the power industry in the UK Midlands we had in our central control room access to a very powerful 'radar' system. This showed in real time every lightening strike in the UK, out over the North Sea and even into Holland. The colour screen was coded so every new strike was shown in ...

Re: sky tv

I had this problem. I have a skybox and a non sky box. I could receive sky on my non sky box (Free to air and encrypted) but not on my sky box, I reluctantly pruned the olive tree that was overhanging the dish increasing the signal quality to 36%, the sky box then initiated ok. It would appear that ...

Re: Vodafone 4G

Thanks for that post. I could make calls ok and I still have all my credits, minutes etc but I was totally unable to connect to the internet when I had a 4g signal. Now it's dropped to 3g my internet has returned. Mystery solved.

Re: Organ donation in Greece

When my late wife had an operation in Heraklion University Hospital she was asked to provide so many units of blood. Greek, German and USA friends donated at Chania Hospital on her behalf. When I tried to donate I was refused for the reasons stated in previous posts. However because I had turned up a...

Good joke Warwick, but apparently after lots of research they decided that the 'rule' didn't actually work and they have officially dropped it. Only oldies like you and me remember it.

Re: postal service

I understand that the Post Office in Vamos gets the mail delivered to it and collected from it at 7 am, which incidentally is before it opens to the public. It is therefore not possible to send it on the day of posting. Any mail posted on a Friday won't leave until 7 am Monday. This isn't a problem ...

Re: Airconditioning Installer? VAMOS area

Lefteris recently installed 3 units for me. I was offered two makes. a) The slightly more expensive where the mechanical parts were guaranteed for 10 years and the electronics for 5 years b) Less expensive with the mechanical parts guaranteed for 5 years and the electronics for 2 years. I was very s...

Re: Half Litre Pyrex Measuring Jug

Thanks everyone. It looks as if my first impression was correct and that they are not available in Crete. I will bring one back from the UK, although a friend? did suggest that I make my fortune and import loads of them if they are so scarce! There are three options, metal, plastic or glass (Pyrex),...
