Re: Cost of getting temporary plates to export a car

I did the UK-Crete trip in a car back in 2013 and posted a detailed account of the journey on this forum. For ease of reference, I have copied it below. I did the journey in reverse 3 years ago with a friend who moved back to the UK with a Greek registered vehicle, he then registered it in the UK. I...

Re: Bathrooms - any recommendations

Terzis alongside the National Road not too far from the Metro Wholesaler has a wide range of tiles and bathroom furniture amongst other things, very reasonable, good quality and service http://www.terzisae.gr/en/

Re: Piraeus Bank ATM Withdrawal Charge

This may be worth a look if you have a UK address https://www.starlingbank.com/travel/ Don't know if the local banks will apply the charges mentioned in the various posts but worth a try. The lock card function could also be useful and it would seem it is very good to use all over the world along wi...

Re: Vietnamese Rice Paper Wraps

I agree with Filippos, Toku just up from the square in Kalyves stock a wide range of Far Eastern products and a lovely, helpful couple who run it. Have a look in the freezer at the rear of the shop, I am sure you will find them there, if not the rice paper specifically, I know they always have the f...

Re: Parcelforce to Crete

In our experience, parcels sent using Parcelforce arrive in Athens normally within 48-72 Hours, after that, quite often it can take around 10 days to get from Athens sent by priority or not. Never lost one yet (touch wood) but it does take time for some reason on the Athens to Crete leg.

Re: Oil central heating

Why don't you look at buying in the UK if readily available and ship it over using Nomad? A friend of mine did just that, radiators also at a saving of well over 1,000€ compared to prices here, including shipping costs.

Re: Driving from England to Chania March 2018

They definitely take vans, I know someone who does Crete-UK-Crete in a LWB van at least 2-3 times a year with no problem, don't know the cost though but Ancona-Patras is not cheap for a car. As others have said, best to email the ferry companies.

Re: Driving from England to Chania March 2018
Has anyone tried driving all the way i.e. through Austria, Hungary, Serbia and Bulgaria to mainland Greece then just ferry over to the island?
I know someone who has done this but would strongly advise against it, big, big corruption and problems in Albania. Say no more.

Re: Driving from England to Chania March 2018

I posted a detailed route 5 years ago, did the journey in reverse Crete to UK last March with just one difference, went through Switzerland instead of Austria, only difference was you have to pay your road tax at the Italy/Swiss border which was a bit of hassle, you should buy it before the border a...

Re: Mobdro

You cannot load Mobdro onto a Samsung TV, there are only a handful of Android compatible TV's out there at the moment, LG and, I think, Sony that you can side load additional apps onto. The easiest way to do this is to buy an Android streaming box and this effectively makes any TV a "smart TV&q...

Re: mirroring to TV.
26 Mbps is pretty high for Crete? Presumably you have the 30 Mbps or 50 Mbps DSL service rather than the 24 Mbps ADSL service? I can't get that where I am but I probably wouldn't bother if it were to become available as I am happy with speed I get now.
Warwick, he is referring to Toow...

Re: mirroring to TV.

A friend who just came over from the UK brought me Amazon's Alexa (Google it - Echo Dot) as a Christmas present, I have to say, for playing UK radio, it's fantastic and responds in a nano second. I use a Greek IP and have no problems accessing UK radio including the BBC. In addition to the radio, Al...

Re: English TV channels

Simply forget FilmOn from now on. Google UKTVNow (not available from PlayStore) and download the app, provides most UK Channels in good quality and free. If installing on an Android based device, in your security settings, check "allow other apps" or whatever your device might say in order...
