Re: Requirements for part-time residents in Crete

Mixos said... “if you had told the Aliens Bureau that you live here less than 183 days each year, in order to stay tax resident in the UK, I think the tax authority could go back seven years and charge you back taxes on your worldwide income.” In that unfortunate and uncertain event, presumably, the...

Re: How will the Schengen 90 days within 180 rule affect us?

For information, there is a group currently campaigning to allow Britons to remain in the EU for 180 days in 365 days, rather than 90 /180 days. (See link below). This would be a perfect solution for “part timers” and they could legally remain tax resident in the U.K. https://sites.google.com/view/1...

Re: How will the Schengen 90 days within 180 rule affect us?

A good point regarding the legality of tax residency, and as I said before, it may become favourable to become tax resident in Greece, depending on an individual's circumstances. (Review the implications of Greek inheritance tax on your worldwide assets as well). Currently, accountants are protectin...

Re: How will the Schengen 90 days within 180 rule affect us?

On the assumption that you are already in possession of a "beige" residence certificate, you can make an application for a biometric residence card providing you spend 6 months in Greece or 183 days each year. You are still able to retain the residence card and spend 6 months in the UK. We...

Re: The latest info regarding our exchange to Biometric cards .

Julia Cross has attached the legislation in a pdf document. (I’m unable to attach it to this forum). The only meaningful reference is:

Re: The latest info regarding our exchange to Biometric cards .

The following extract was issued by “British in Greece” Facebook group today. My interpretation is that it’s not simply an exchange to a biometric permit ?? =================================================================== Good morning. So the long awaited Greek legislation is out! These are the m...

Re: Flying Crete - UK

Just to put some facts into context....
Wales have not entered Greece under quarantine measures.
However, TUI have cancelled holidays to Argassi (Zante), following the incident of non compliance on a flight from Zante to Cardiff.

Re: For Reference

The article mentions that some countries have chosen a “constitutive” method of applying for settled status, and that some countries have chosen the simpler “declaratory” method. Greece has chosen the “declaratory” method. The following is copied from B.I.G. I have something good to share with you. ...

Re: The latest info regarding our exchange to Biometric cards .

This is extremely good news for everyone! Especially for those of us with beige certificates who probably dreaded the daunting task of jumping through hoops again to prove that we still qualify. For ‘part timers’ we’ll retain the freedom we’ve enjoyed up to now, without having to worry about the res...

Re: How Bad Is The Greek Tax System?

The linked article hints that it It may become more advantageous to be ‘tax resident’ in Greece. The proposal is a rate of 7% for private income/pension, but that public pensions would continue be taxed at source under Double taxation agreements. https://greece.greekreporter.com/2020/07/01/can-greec...

Re: British hopes of summer holidays abroad quashed!

How can you say with certainty that there are no active cases around you? I applaud the effective controls that were taken by Greece - I think they surpassed all expectations! But I’m honestly anxious about visiting this year because of my perception that people have now become too relaxed. Please f...
