Re: Getting rid of coins

I have recently been told, from not a very good source I might add, that there is a coin machine in Athens, at least I think that is what was being described to me. Having worked out my weight in copper I could make a tidy profit of €3.40 after air fares, a local coffee, light lunch and possibly a d...

Getting rid of coins

I have collected all my 5,2 and 1 cent coins and decided to change them up for notes, I knew this was going to be difficult and I knew it was not the same in the UK where one can pop to their local supermarket and use their coin machine in exchange for supermarket vouchers. So with heavy bag in hand...

Mosquitoes

Lived in Crete a long time and noticed a lot more mosquito bites this year. It's the first time that I've been bitten in my house too, I always have mosquito deterrents set up around the home but they are not affective this year. I did read somewhere that there is an increase of 'no-see-ums' this ye...

Re: Reflect heat from roof

Thanks, some good advice. After contacting an eco company it seems that for my needs, costs, appearance and maintenance either painting the roof white with a particular paint or laying white tarpaulin sheets ( thick grade) will reduce some heat entering the building, something that they do in India....

Reflect heat from roof

With all this heat we have at the moment I was thinking of ways to prevent the house heating up, I have the pergolas covered for shade and trees planted for the same reason but what about the roof? I have a single storey house with a large flat roof, light coloured tiles but am guessing heat is stil...

Re: Garden Shed

Yes thanks Warwick, I too saw them at the wood yard and was steared towards plasic, i was looking at the 8x6 ketter but a review said that they are only suitable in areas of up to 45 mph, his one blew away, and i would have it exposed to high winds. Plasic also would not require any maintenance :win...

Garden Shed

Anyone know of any suppliers in the West Crete area? there is one in East Crete but wondered if there is one in the West. Wooden sheds are what I'm after, plasic ones like Keter I've read blow away especially when they are big and face high winds.

Pet Passports

I have done much research on this including phoning DEFRA but I only get vague answers if any at all, does anyone know the current requirements for bringing a dog into Crete? I have a valid pet passport, Rabies injections stamped and will be wormed 2 days prior to entering Crete, anything else? UK v...

Skybox a thing of the past?

I have a satellite dish I was using with an old skybox a few years ago, is this set up a thing of the past or should I still bring my newer skybox and still receive some channels, if so what ones? I know the Internet is the latest fashion but I have no landline and even my mobile hardly works so ser...

Reasons to be cheerful

Tell me 3 good simple sensible reasons to live in Crete, or 3 reasons you rather choose Crete than the UK, or vice versa if any.
