Phaedra....this is the people from Athens complaining they get on the ferry and its 1.47 in Athens, they get off the ferry and it's 1.57 in Chania Athens is the "expensive" location supposedly yet they have to pay noticeably more here And here in Kissamos, it's almost 1.67 - does that mak...

We spent almost five months refining the design and finalising what was and what was not included in the contract. A very wise approach, five months well spent! All potential buyers should take such a considered approach. We have had to rectify the aftermath of so many horror stories - where buyers...

Re: House Build

plus 1-2m of concrete all around, a gravel drive and parking space Some further thoughts ... a "wake-up call", really! - what do you mean by "1-2m of concrete all around"? You should specify exactly: where, width, depth, footings, reinforcing, etc ... that can make a hell of a d...

PAYE

Hi Warwick Ok, now I understand your point ... that private sector employers under-declare what they actually pay to employees, in order to reduce the IKA. I completely agree that this happens. In fact, a lot of businesses try not to pay IKA at all - as ex-pat tourism workers know to their cost. How...

Re: House Build

How much do you think VAT and IKA would be on top of this? As filippos wrote, the architect/engineer calculates the IKA. In round terms, it usually averages around 7% of the build cost. Although VAT is 21%, soon to increase to 23% and then 25%, this is usually also calculated by the architect/engin...

This reduces both the IKA ... Sorry, Warwick, that statement is an error. One problem for businesses is that IKA is not progressive like UK NI. The minimum IKA an employer must pay for a full-time employee is nearly E300 per month + extra bonuses at Easter, August, Christmas (when they are not work...

That's E1,000 per m2 for a basic finish, but you don't say whether the architect's fees/permits are included, or electricity/water connections. I would not agree that "costs have suddenly increased dramatically" - we are feeling the costs of fuel rises on materials (but more importantly, s...

Kilkis If I understand correctly, Patricia is asking how much tax would she have to pay to purchase the second home. In that case, she should allow around 12.5% of the *real* price to allow for taxes, lawyer, notary, land registry, agency commission. E.g. on a E100,000 house = E12,500. If I misunder...

Where to rent in West Crete

It would be helpful if you could let us all know:

- roughly where in West Crete ?
- how many bedrooms / m2 ?
- garden and/or parking required ?
- how many months' rental period ?
- max monthly rental cost ?
- will you be driving or walking ?

Suggestion ...

Kyrstyn Why don't you both take it easy after walking the longest European gorge on a hot summer day ... how about staying overnight on the south coast, returning to Kissamos the next day? With the economic crisis and all that, a bit of local bargaining should get you rooms for a reasonable price wi...

British flag draped across Ireland

...the Irish Republic had disappeared and remarking that obviously they had no weather there as it was not on the screen at all!

Shouldn't that be "... at all, at all!" ??
