Re: Transferring funds, and pink slips

I used to give my accountant a summary of incoming funds but eventually that was not required. Point taken about collecting Pink slips, but if needed I guess I can get the bank to supply the details. Bob.

Re: Transferring funds, and pink slips

We use Currency Fair who as Philipos says only charge €3 whatever the amount. Our Alpha Bank takes the same for importing the money and that's it. We are not tax resident here, and it is some years since our accountant asked anything about how much, or when we transferred from the UK. Don't have to ...

Re: Car Hire Insurance

Just a note that iCarhireinsurance are no longer covering Greek residents - just discovered when I went to renew my policy. Have taken out a policy with http://www.worldwideinsure.com - costs are comparable with iCarhireinsurance. Thanks, fellow singer! Car Hire excess covers up to 84 years of age ...

Re: Car Hire Insurance

Yes, they confirmed that existing policies are still valid - I'd asked because my husband has one. Having had a bit of a moan, the agent I spoke to confirmed that it was not only Greece which was now excluded - she mentioned Portugal as another. I wouldn't be surprised if exclusions were aimed main...

If I am in the queue and have to stop because of a red light my side, provided I am the first in the queue, I usually flash my lights to tell the people opposite that it is clear to go. Bob

I read the Guardian article too. Like I have said before, many times, the Home office is unfit for purpose and should be re-staffed from top to bottom. Bob.

Gosh. 8 days with no comments. We are all obviously bored to tears by the whole business. Just thought I would keep the thread alive for a bit longer! Bob.

Re: Highway Roadworks near Aptera

It will be interesting to see how bad it gets this Sunday afternoon. Went through from Chania about mid-day and police were sorting it out. Quite a long tail-back on the Chania side, but most of the time it was moving slowly but surely. Not much traffic going the other way. One bloke in the queue j...

Re: rent or buy?

Also I know people who live here permanently and have no property in the UK but still have their name on a council tax bill of a relative so they can use the bill as proof of address if they need to provide evidence for a "UK residents only" service, so even that isn't foolproof. Warwick ...

Re: European flag

I can probably match you on this one, Bob! High for second altos as well. To be nit picky, there isn't a prelude to the ninth symphony; the last movement begins with orchestra only and then continues with chorus and soloists. The other 3 movements are purely orchestral. Second alto eh? And there wa...

Re: Currency Transfers, possible problems.

I made some local Greek bank payments on Friday afternoon, 19th April and the transfer date came up as Tuesday 23rd April. Greece to Greece transfer between two Greek banks, so some of the Greek banks were not registering local transactions over the Catholic Easter. Very strange! The things that ar...

I don't think you will get BBC1 on a satellite here. I certainly never did. Most people use Internet streaming services of one sort or another. Warwick Until about 4 years or so ago we got BBC World News but not BBC1. I really don't know anything about the cost of providing satellite feeds to the g...

Re: European flag

Why would you need to speak German? The EU anthem is the prelude to Beethoven's 9th Symphony. While the symphony itself is a choral work, based on Schiller's poem and as such was written in German, the EU anthem has no words . From the official European Union web site : There are no words to the an...
