Don't worry Phil. This is Greece and as yet, Christmas is low-key; not many flashing lights etc. Hang in there and you never know!

Hi John. the water pipes are generally all uniquely numbered. When you see them at the side of the road, or track, they usually have a zinc plaque fastened near the top and the number is in blue. On older pipes, the number is painted in weird yellow numbers. 2's and 9's are easily confused. Have a l...

If your musing that I can get switched from a good line to a bad line is right, then I hope the recent furore which involved CYTA and OTE having to work together, may just put them off doing it again! Your comment about floodlights is interesting. Our basketball court in the village is about 50 metr...

John: you could do a lot worse than go into Papyrus in Kalyves and buy all 6 of our walks booklets - for the princely total sum of €18. The first two books have walks around Kalyves and Almyrida. The rest need a car to get to start. All are in the Apokoronas area, easy to follow and the longest (thi...

The price difference is the key really. It works out at slightly less than half my OTE bill. I am happy with the speed, and when they get their fingers out, reasonably happy with the tech support although I have my suspicions that there is only the one CYTA techie in the Chania area! Another factor ...

Well, just goes to show you should never say never, or never say it's all over. On 5 July the system was working perfectly at 0700. By 0900 it was a dead duck. No connections anywhere. reported the problem at 1100 and again 1330. And again on 6th July. And again on 9th July. Just about to blow a sta...

Presume your ADSL outage was with OTE? CYTA seems to be pulling the plug for an hour or two each morning, and they tell me it's because they are upgrading the lines. Usually back by about 10am. Works well when it works!

Hopefully the GRAND FINALE to my CYTA story a. We have the internet b. Outlook Express works c. The 4 phones in the house work d. My contract is being changed from one requesting 8mbps to 2mbps because where we live in Kokkino Horio, there is NO HOPE of getting more than about 1mbps - which means th...

UPDATE A very helpful techie from CYTA in Chania called, on time, as promised and has sorted out the phones. We now have had restored the phone connection to all of our rooms (well, only 4, we don't live in a mansion!) and the internet. It entailed somw wire-switching in the phone sockets on the wal...

Thanks for that Glen. Nice to know someone else is taking/has taken the plunge. I think you are right about the two wires, and the instructions we have are all in poorly-photocopied Greek! I can recognise various reference points but am reluctant to 'tinker' with it in case I screw the whole thing u...
