For the last 12 years I have just given my accountant my P60 which shows how much tax I have paid on my pensions and €100 which includes translation of the p60; that seems to satisfy the tax authorities in Chania. I have never paid direct tax in Greece. Hope that helps.

Hopefully good news for those of us in the Apokoronas area; OTE workmen reckon that the new boxes they are installing will be connected to the fibre-optic cables and up and running within a month. Make that two months, but still good news!

On the way back from Lidl and Jumbo (Kissamos road) going back to Chania and just past a sign on the right for Energy Kids, there is a garage on the left. Sorry, didn't take note of the name, but two days ago I got diesel for the Fiat at €1.21 a litre.

My breadmaker is a Panasonic SD253 brought over from the UK, but I would have thought they would all roughly be the same. This is the recipe I always use for a plain white loaf (taken from the recipe booklet that came with the machine. It stresses that the ingredients should be put in the bin in th...

Good old KEP

Not wanting the hassle of IKA renewals, went to KEP 8 days ago with our IKA books, waited a couple of minutes while the lass there filled in the on-line forms and printed a couple off. Today get phone call from KEP - Books are here, all is in order. Good service, what?

I don't know about for bread-making by hand, but for my bread machine I use the Myloi Kriti brand, 'Sklyro' (hard), currently in a white pack with brown and red flashes. Always good results. would be very much interested in the recipe please? I bought a breadmaking machine from Lidl a few months ag...

Re: Civil Servants' 13th and 14th salaries

It's easy to carp on without knowing the facts. Having been a civil servant in the UK for some 36 years, I am astonished at the idea of my Greek counterparts getting 14 months' salary each year. I have no idea what the 'going rate' comparisons would be, but does anyone have a clue as to how this bu...

Depressing news. End of competition - Athens Air will do little I fear. Still, we had it good with Aegean cheap flights for a while. Presume the loss of the name Aegean is in line with Athens wanting to retain a 'national airline' - losing the name Olympic would be unthinkable I guess. As someone sa...

Re: Changes in ex-pat healthcare arrangements.

books based on an E121 or an E109 form I assume when you're saying the E109, you mean the E106? Not necessarily: "Form E109 Issued by HMRC for the dependants only of a person who is employed or self employed in the UK, but whose dependents reside in another EU country. Normally renewable and i...

Thanks Warwick. We usually go to the KEP office by the Dikastiria in Chania and they take the books, fill in the forms, do the leg-work and give us the books back in about 7 to 10 days.

We were going there today but read your post first, so will go next week instead.
