Re: Civil Servants' 13th and 14th salaries

It's easy to carp on without knowing the facts. Having been a civil servant in the UK for some 36 years, I am astonished at the idea of my Greek counterparts getting 14 months' salary each year. I have no idea what the 'going rate' comparisons would be, but does anyone have a clue as to how this bu...

Depressing news. End of competition - Athens Air will do little I fear. Still, we had it good with Aegean cheap flights for a while. Presume the loss of the name Aegean is in line with Athens wanting to retain a 'national airline' - losing the name Olympic would be unthinkable I guess. As someone sa...

Re: Changes in ex-pat healthcare arrangements.

books based on an E121 or an E109 form I assume when you're saying the E109, you mean the E106? Not necessarily: "Form E109 Issued by HMRC for the dependants only of a person who is employed or self employed in the UK, but whose dependents reside in another EU country. Normally renewable and i...

Thanks Warwick. We usually go to the KEP office by the Dikastiria in Chania and they take the books, fill in the forms, do the leg-work and give us the books back in about 7 to 10 days.

We were going there today but read your post first, so will go next week instead.

garage doors

Does anyone know where an 'old fashioned' for want of a better phrase 'up-and-over' garage door can be found - like the ones you see so often in the UK?

Definitely NOT the more fashionable 'roller-blind' type.

thanks.

New OTE boxes

Does anyone know what is inside the new OTE boxes that are springing up around the place? Local line distributors or small exchanges? To do with fibre-optics or not?

I completely agree with you Paul. I also would not buy a cheap machine but if you look at the original post, 400 Euro was too expensive. I was trying to find him something less than 400 Euro. Warwick As before folks, thanks. It'snot that €400 was too much, it just 'seemed' to be a bit steep. From y...

Might you get better service from a dealer from whom you bought a car rather than taking a foreign vehicle to a dealer who has no great reason to look after you? You might find a local service garage who would service the import but will they have the diagnostic kit needed for a modern vehicle [ass...

EUROPEAN HEALTH INSURANCE CARD

I guess this applies to all nationalities, not just Brits, but have just had a letter and form in the post indicating that wef 1 May 2010, the responsibility for issuing this card is no longer the member state where we are now living, but the UK. Accordingly one has to send back the form and expect ...
